Today in Ingham, north of Lincoln, was a display of finds from the 2020 dig at Cammeringham of an Anglo Saxon burial ground, discovered by metal detectorists. It was discovered on Lincoln ridge which runs north/south overlooking the Trent valley. This ridge has unearthed Roman findings as well. The display today had gilded brooches, burial jewellery, cremation pots, spear heads etc, all about 1500 years old. In the actual field they found many skeletons in various positions, some in very good condition, considering the field has been used for agriculture for centuries and of course with farm machinery digging and ploughing it's a wonder anything survived at all. The burials were all in shallow ground. Carenza Lewis from Time Team was involved with the dig. She works at Lincoln University now. It's wonderful to see the finds and even more exciting to know that this all happened not a couple of miles from where we live. There is so much more to uncover on the ridge, if only you know where to look.
An interesting find not so far away from that one...a high status Bronze Age burial found when they drained a pond on Tettney Golf course for maintenance. https://www.theguardian.com/science/2021/sep/10/rare-bronze-age-coffin-found-golf-course-pond-axe
