it seemed to me that we perhaps weren’t playing him in the fear that he got injured and so it scuppered a move. His goal record is fantastic over the last 20 games also and so I would expect to see him a little bit more in the coming weeks.
I think he's not been playing because the players in his position have been performing well. He was out of the side at the start of the season because he returned late to training, due to international duty. But I honestly don't see who he comes in for.
I do share the view though of others that he's a threat in the air, that we might otherwise lack up top, and I reckon he could do a job there.
7 goals in his last 7 starts I read somewhere. Heck of a player to have in reserve. And should another drop off, he might well get in and stay in. We’ll see.
Nailed it there. If the man with the shirt gets injured or loses form or just needs resting Russell is a fantastic player ready made to fit in.Although young himself he knows how football works and when he does get his chance he'll work even harder to keep his place, thats how having a competitive squad works.
He will have a lot to contribute in our front 4. Like McGoldrick has done this season, he won't really have to hold the ball up but will face the opposition goal most of the time which suits his strengths. Lovely that he can press but won't have as much responsibility to run back quickly.
I get the impression that Hourihane wants a workhorse alongside Connell so it’s one of Bland, Yoganathan & Kelly with Connell & Russell is essentially competing with Phillips for a spot. So he’ll have to rely on sub appearances & cup games to make an impact.
