Possibly looking for somewhere to stay for one night in December be it a good hotel or pub with accommodation.
I've stayed in Buxton, I was there on a golfing trip and it's a lovely part of the world, but alas I can't give you any pointers as I was very, very drunk.
Cheshire Cheese pub in Castleton was excellent when we stopped a good while ago. Whenever we`ve tried to get in again it`s not been available.
I’ve stayed at the Old Hall in Buxton which was decent apart from an unfortunate incident when after a heavy session in the Buxton Tap I slipped in the over bath shower pulling the plastic shower curtain down over me just as I inhaled and nearly suffocated, fortunately the wife was on hand to save me . The Old Hall Inn at Chinley is cracking you can get a train into Hope pleasant walk into Castleton
I was in Buxton for two nights in 1974 for the rock festival, but I dont think you would like to sleep where I did
Castle inn at Castleton, it’s a vintage inn with rooms, comfortable enough for a cheeky stay. it’s a beautiful village with pubs & restaurants all around you.
I stayed overnight at the Buxton rock festival in 1972 under a plastic sheet, it was very damp and cold. Wouldn't recommend.
The only problem with the Castle is or was is the proximity to the church and the bells chiming every hour through the night.
We used to go regularly to Buxton for the G&S festival. I remember there was a hotel (the Buckingham I think). It was themed on Fawlty Towers. There was a sign outside that read “Psychiatrists 20% discount, Germans 20% surcharge. I hope it’s still there.
