The club may look like complete idiots if Wigan win their appeal I still find it strange that we are floating about something that isn’t confirmed yet . I hope to god that the EFL dont buckle and allow them off with this
Yes, am worried. Whilst agreeing with @Gordon Owen 's sentiment, putting your trust in the EFL is like trusting a political party to carry out their manifesto promises. You know they should, but somehow you just know they won't. Saying that, I don't think the club look silly - anything they say / post / tweet is based on the understanding that rules WILL be followed and we are thus safe.
I'm not worried in the slightest. I know people like to play the victim and say that the EFL are against us, but literally every team says that. They can't be against every team. There's 0 chance the appeal gets overturned. I'm more than happy for this to be bumped on the 31st when I look an idiot.
It's clearly a possibility, or they wouldn't be appealing. The celebrations on the night are understandable, given the nature of the win, and everything they've had to do this week to get in this position. Like Woodrow said on SSN yesterday, let them enjoy the fact that they sit outside the bottom 3 after 46 games. But, the Great Escape tweet last night was laying it on a bit thick imo.
The efl seem to work on taking the route of least resistance which in this case is upholding the deduction. They must surely realise that Conway and co will not accept anything else without kicking up a dust storm
I wouldn't say that I'm worried, but this whole thing is taking away some of the joy of our incredible achievement. What is the club supposed to do though? The next season starts pretty soon and we have to prepare for it, but they have to make a choice whether they're preparing for a new season in the Championship, or a new season in League One. There's a huge difference. Right now the situation is that we'll be in the Championship when the football kicks off again, so we'll have to spend some more money on better players (hopefully!) and new contracts for example, so if the EFL decides to send us down after all, I would expect a major lawsuit from us.
That's what I'm consoling myself with. Last thing they need is another appeal that may run close to the start of the new season.
The hearing is on the 31st, but I think we'll have to wait for any decisions for much longer than that. The next season starts so soon afterwards that sending us down would be the biggest dick move in the history of modern football.
The 31st is on a Friday so we can all have a reight good **** up when it's confirmed we're staying up. Staying up, **** up Friday it'll be known as.
If Wigan did win the appeal, however doubtful it may seem now, would we fans accept relegation with good grace, knowing that until the final few games we had been very poor and we all admitted we deserved to be where we were, with not enough points gained to avoid relegation. The Wigan thing is a lifeline, nothing more.
Absolutely not. They went into administration. The points deduction stands or I have no interest in football anymore. It's make or break for me.
It won’t get as far as the appeal. They’re not going to waste half a mil on a case they’re all but certain to lose. I expected them to withdraw their appeal next week.
There is a article about us in the Daily Star today. The main points from it are..... 1) We will take legal action if Wigan win their appeal. 2) Sheffield Wednesday face a possible 21 point deduction due to financial misconduct charges. 3) Derby County are under investigation. 4) Wednesday and Derby have both had their hearings and are waiting on verdicts. 5) We believe staying in the Championship is worth £10 million. That figure surprised me as £7 million usually gets mentioned so it's a big increase on usual. 6) If we end up in league one club staff would lose their jobs.
What worries me more than anything is the fact that it’s costing Wigan up £500,000 to appeal. The fact they are willing to (invest) this money on an appeal which on paper is pointless the rules are the rules etc is suspicious imo . Have they sounded out the EFL and or other bodies before making this decision seems a bit irresponsible when monies is tight and investors are looking for scraps . I know the excuse is that they get more money if they stay in the Championship etc but if there’s a challenge imo I don’t think it will be blind imo . I do not trust any ruling body attached to football in any capacity to make fair decisions and that’s from FIFA to the. North Counties league . It’s my belief that if a Club such as Birmingham City or Middlesbrough would have finished third bottom we would not be awaiting an appeal it would have been waved away but teams as us and Luton etc are immaterial to the EFL imo. As you say all this is dampening the ecstatic mood we should all be in after a magnificent achievement played in the right manor and within the rules .
I thought they had to confirm yesterday that they were proceeding with the appeal, which they appear to be doing?
I wonder if it’s more like £10m this year due to COVID. There’s no guarantee League One even starts and if it does, the finances down there are rubbish.
they've sold a young player to Brighton today for half a million up front. that funds the appeal id guess, i know if i was a creditor however id be asking serious questions as to why that money wasn't coming my way.
