Any other parents going through gcse results day today?

I am one very proud step dad right now.

 

Many, many congratulations, mate. This is always a tense & stressful time for the family, but especially the kids.
I believe good news like this is always welcome on the BBS.

 

I went through the same last year, and have it to come again next year. Congrats, you must be very proud.

Warning though; AS levels have proved much more difficult, poor set of results last week have given him a real kick up the jacksi. He honestly admits that the intensity is several notches up from GCSE. So forewarn yours to prepare to step up! !

Her results are a result of all her hard work. Regardless of whay they would have been i still could not be more proud.

 

Same here, but dad rather than step dad. A BTEC Sport distinction, and 11 others A/Bs (no A* though ) to go with the couple she took last year. Now on to Barnsley 6th form tomorrow for enrollment.

I think enrollment lasts for most of the next week or so.

 

No kids, so don't understand how turning up to school, signing your name on a piece of paper, being able to go into a strop when you're told that 2 + 2 doesn't equal 3, guarantees you a place at Wombwell University or at least gives you chance to do media studies with nail and hair qualifications.
When I were a lad I had to dig ten tons of coal, do a paper round, wash my own uniform, be a knocker-upper for the whole village, walk five miles to school, get 25 O levels and 17 A levels, make sandwiches for all the poor kids, all before lunch time. Don't ask about the afternoons !
I can't remember bouncing all over the place (when the cameras were on me) and dancing and screaming like a loony. We got our results through the post.
We even had to supply our own envelope and stamp.
Children today..... meh.
AND FOR GOD'S SAKE.... STOP CALLING THEM STUDENTS !!!!! THEY'RE PUPILS, OR CHILDREN. Really gets my hackles up, that does.

 

Hate it when people say exams are easier- kids today work harder than we ever did - time to give them credit rather than knocking them down. Lot of proud step/parents on here and you've every right to be - well done all

 

It makes me laugh when people say exams are easier. I don't think they are and even if they are slightly easier there will be little practical effect - no matter what the standards are unis and employers will still select the same proportion from the top. It's not as if Oxford have suddenly started admitting 300,000 kids a year because results have improved.

I suppose History will always get harder - there is more of it every year!

Hey, I'm on the run trying to avoid being culled.
Oh sorry, that was an earlier boring thread I ran out of steam reading.

 

Went through it last week with A Levels, 2 A's and a B - daughter off to Sheffield Uni in a few weeks to do History. It'll be hard leaving her there and not having her at home - I'll have to talk to the wife then!

'im encouraging mine to go the leeds or sheffield so they can stay at home and not accrue debt

 

I'd tell my kids to live out even if their uni was at the end of the road. The 3 years at uni offer invaluable life experience in terms of independence, managing finances etc. I think that's far more important than some debt which is paid off via gradual and almost unnoticeable payments when they start work.

 

completely disagree.setting of life with a debt of that proportion is setting of with one arm tied behind your back.
