Just watching Big Match Revisited and he came on for West Ham. He looked thinner than I could recall too!
Was gutted as a young un when we lost both him and Gorry overnight.
Any memories anyone? I seem to recall "sack the board" chants at the next game when the news broke?

Yes, but it enabled Jim Iley to lay the foundations for our promotion a couple of years later under Allan Clarke.

From memory he played vs West Ham in a cup game. 2-0 defeat? Think he impressed them.

Earlier on that year, we'd also sold Mick Butler & Bobby Doyle, too. I was one of those teenagers giving it "Iley Out", as we persistently sold our promising youngsters and replaced them with much older journey men. Years later, the penny dropped that the bloke would've probably loved to keep the young 'uns, but selling them kept the club club in business and stay afloat.
As a teenager, I was convinced I knew everything about everything and if someone disagreed with me, then they were simply wrong. On reflection, I was an arrogant, ignorant muppet. Now I know I know nothing about anything! :D:D

Upton Park 1976, I went down there. Just a couple of hundred reds fans who were put down the side with home fans. It got very tasty I can tell you. Police seemed to stand back and enjoy the free- for all fighting.

Kermit and Fozzie Bear would be most offended at that slur (wish I knew how to insert a smiley ‘just joking’ face)

Lost 3-0. 1976. I was with a minibus full. Stood among their fans. TBH I think I was glad we had nowt to cheer about. Horrible feckers. My first away trip to the capital I think. Think Mervyn Day had to pull a few saves off, mind.

Yup, I was there, too. I thought we equipped ourselves quite well that night, certainly not embarrassed by them. However, none of us were in a position to show our appreciation to the team for their efforts.

I was there as well & also I went when Glavin scored his first goal for us in a 3 v 1 defeat I think in the league cup, all though I feel sure someone put me right if I am wrong , but I do know for definite that it was very unfriendly on both visits .

I made it a hattrick of visits there in the League Cup the following season, 1980/81. Ian Evans put us in front with a brilliant header, but David Cross scored a couple of goals to win the game for the runaway Division 2 leaders 2-1. They went on to reach the final, where they were beaten by Liverpool.

I may be wrong but I think we lost 2-0 in the league cup … not sure if Glavin played but it was in 79 so reckon he would have.

    Brooking played for them

We lost 3-1 in the 1st Leg at Upton Park, with Glavin scoring. We lost 2-0 at Oakwell in the 2nd Leg. Trevor Brooking picked up a rare booking in that second leg.
