My heartrate was....ahem... quite high… I actually woke up at 4am by knocking over the bedside table (I also woke S.W.M.B.O and she was not best pleased) dreaming I was saving a penalty. I pointed out it was a good job the penalty was on the left or I would have hit her instead of the table!! MY bloody hand hurts this morning As conspiracy theories go…. I think the EFL must have had a word with the ref pre-game on the lines of…..”Now we need to deduct 12 points from Wigan with minimal repercussions… it would be very useful if Barnsley fail to get three points..if you..ahem.... understand what we are saying here. Now run along, there’s a good chap, do what you can” (nod wink). It is the only explanation I can have for the blatant one sided decisions he made… 1 blatant handball penalty, playing advantage for the opposition then pulling it back when it broke down, yet on two occasions Barnsley broke free and he blew straight away to award us a foul when we had a clear run on goal. Not to mention all the soft decisions for them and the blatant trip on Brown? when he had a clear run on goal and no booking. Given how it was a fairytale ending that seemed to get the press excited (two wins against top teams, goals scored in injury time from two young players and their first League goals) combined with the threat of legal action from BFC, I don’t see how even the EFL can get away with rescinding the 12 point deduction and breaking their own rules. Force Majeur could apply but Wigan were already in dire straights before Covid . as that legal view printed by someone here pointed out- As for the 'Piggies'..... they should have the book thrown at them and even a punishment as low as 8 or 9 points deduction would see them relegated too. I do think though, the EFL will bottle that one. The EFL really are not fit for purpose as someone has written.
