https://uk.yahoo.com/news/singer-songwriter-peter-sarstedt-dies-171436607.html Yes, I know....Peter who? Only those who were at school in the late 1960s will remember when he was in the charts with Where Do You Go To My Lovely, and a few more. I never knew until reading the above that he was the brother of another pop star from that time - Eden Kane. Well I ask yer
God I remember the cover version back when Euro dance cheese was about in the 90s........ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyANFcnrM8I
I liked "I am a Cathedral" better than his big hit. And the one about frozen orange juice. Great lyrics: I'll buy you one more frozen orange juice On this fantastic day We'll walk the sunny hills of Madrid Laughing all the way And if you feel you wanna run, down to the beach A place that no one else has ever seen before
He once bought me a Gin and Tonic in The Ritz. Yes he did for a laugh, ahaha. Actually he didn't, but even though I'm obviously way too young, that song, became a bit of a cult thing for me and my sister. RIP Peter Sarstedt.
Another funny thing about him is that, at the time, it never occurred to me that he was of Indian descent. He was born in Delhi apparently. Same with Freddie Mercury - I never thought of him having Asian blood either (born of Parsi descent, grew up in Zanzibar and India). Mind you, I never thought of Shirley Bassey being of mixed race until recently! Maybe it's just that years ago we never really noticed these things. They were just singers. Or it might just be me
The Navy version is more interesting,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, You sing like Marlene Deitrich and dance like Biffo the Bear. Your clothes are all made by Pusser and there's lice in your pubic hair................... I remember the back streets of Naples The children all dressed in rags I remember you stole all their money For a pint and a packet of fags yes you did...Haha ha. It gets worse as it goes on so won't go there,
Not a one hit wonder but his subsequent hits were less than memorable so might as well be considered as one. 75 so not a bad innings.
This really confused me. I looked him up and he died in 2017, then found that this thread was from 2017. Why was it bumped?
