I generally only use it for films and TV shows and most f the time there's a pretty good stream for most of them but I still keep hearing a lot about vpn's. What's the benefit of getting one and what's the cost?

Most ISP's try to block the streams, vpns are another way of getting round it as they disguise where in the world you are located. Plenty of free ones about to choose from, I use VPN unlimited only because I got 3 years service for a fiver

I'm also with VPN Unlimited, but rarely use it with Kodi, as I only use Exodus and for now at least there's no ISP block. I got mine when I used Icefilms and Primewire. Worth pointing out they can slow your speed down.

Basically they encrypt your connection from your computer to their servers ( no one can then snoop on your activities ) & then they give you one of their i.p. addresses , thus making you invisible on internet & untraceable ( if you go with right one ).
Beware of the free ones , there are not many that do not keep logs of users connections , which if the law enforcement people ask for the logs your doomed.
aka "Hide my Ass VPN a few years ago".

Ive been using this one for years https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/ , theres also an app for ios & android , up to 5 simultaneous connections per account.

Started using it when i got a DMCA notice , not had one since  .

I've been thinking of getting one, but as far as I can tell it's illegal to watch streams which are supposed to be paid for, like films, Sky sports etc. So that rules it out for me, as I can watch the free stuff on TV anyway. Or am I missing something?

Its illegal to host not stream, as long as your not supplying the streams or content no problem

I never use a vpn either and very rarely use exodus if at all. Much prefer the one click addons by mucky duck for movies, such as m4u, hd box, imperial streams and 123 movies among others. use specto, salts or some of the md addons for TV shows via the metalicq addon as I like to add tv shows to tv library

no but if there is an HD version of a Movie available it will be on it anyway, the Hd movies on HD box a fantastic quality. They arent scraping numerous sites like exodus. I just prefer the 1 click addons and don't see point in paying for a realdebrid account.

i do prefer 1 click tbh. i'll have another look. not heard about metalliq. i'll give it a spin. i link everything to my home page through widgets, so i only ever tend to use 1 add on at a time. cheers
