........'when you have rules you don't need common sense'!! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50196446 So the ball is heading out of play and the sub stops the ball whilst it hasn't fully crossed the line (presumably marginally since he was behind the goal warming up) and he gets booked. The worst part his innocent action he conceded a penalty for his side which was converted. The rule makes sense if it affects play i.e. a player keeps the ball in play and affects a passage of play but here only VAR to spot the 'infringment' It simply needed the ref to award goalkick or corner. It appears using discretion and flexibility is no longer part of a referees' vocabulary.
Common sense went some time ago in fact refs who show it get marked down. Good example the red card at Southampton on Friday. 12th minute pouring rain player off balance is s bit high with one foot catchin Leicester player on the shin. At worst a Yellow in previous seasons but slow things down and take common sense out and it’s a Red and a game ruined. Yet in the Man City game VAR can’t even get it right and fails to disallow a goal because they can’t spot a touch making Stirling offside They just aren’t getting it right too often
Can anyone else remember a few years ago when a ball boy picked the ball up before it went out of play? Given the refs down at Oakwell, I’m surprised a penalty wasn’t given to the opposition that day!
