    The Wigan fans keep going on about it but I haven't seen one shred of evidence. Surely someone would have dug something out by now?

    It's ******** Odour misses we go down Wigan stay up they just can't face up to the fact that the club as lived beyond its means for years and it's finally caught up with it Dave Whelan bank rolled them to the premier League and the FA cup win but he's not there anymore.

    There may be a betting scam, but until someone produces evidence is not an admissible factor in the pending appeal. Also just noticed this report from Wigan Today.

    "Krasner pointed out no club had ever successfully challenged the 12-point penalty for entering administration, which would be applied this season.
    "He said the administrators were also working on a strategy to ensure the club would not be liable to a further 15-point deduction for failing to pay creditors 25p in the pound."

    I really can't see what grounds they have for an appeal. The COVID force majeure thing is ridiculous - missing a handful of home games drives them into bankruptcy? If so it's because they have lived massively beyond their means.

    Am I missing something obvious here?
    What is the claim they're making? That the former owner was involved in a dodgy betting scam or the new owner?

    They missed 4 home games for which they already had sold ST’s for and got their TV money. They could also furlough staff and had reduced running expenses. I can’t see how anyone can claim it’s all down to Covid

    If there is truth in the betting scam surely that’s grounds for increasing the penalty. Not scrapping it

    The only concern I have is they may go with the argument that had the season finished as scheduled it would have been after the season finished and they get the penalty deferred to next season.

    Not too sure what happens if a club avoids relegation but then goes into admin before the playoff final. Would they be relegated or get docked 12 points next season

    Hmm - surely the appeal panel only look at whether the law has been fairly applied? And as Wigan are the only club to go in admin, I suggest it has.

    I could be wrong but I believe that although the season ends as far as games are concerned it isn't deemed as concluded until much later a few weeks before the next one takes place and it's at that point that teams are promoted or relegated.

    The thing that makes me laugh. If the owner is found to be illegally betting on games, surely that should be a higher points deduction not a lower one.

    Too much sentimentality in football. The owner is the club, not the fans. It's not 'punishing the fans' it's punishing the club.

    I think the force majeure argument that they are using is that the owner, having provided assurance of funds etc when he bought the club, decided to get administrators in when it wasn’t needed. And that he’d tried to liquidate the club as soon as he got his hands on it.

    I don’t know how much you can separate the club from the actions of its owner legally, but their QC would know better than me.

    It will be a disgrace if we’re relegated now, but I think it’s possible. It would be good to hear a view from the club. At the moment, given the celebrations and subsequent tweets, it looks like we have our heads in the sand about it. It would be good to hear something from the club on what their position is, given the limbo the club is in through no fault of their own.

    I think our club should act as though we're up because as it stands we are. Im surprised the liquidators are allowing the appeal in all honesty, be different if an owner wants to fund it.Surely we've consulted with lawyers behind the scenes though?

    I doubt the club have their heads in the sand. But what do you want the club to say?

    Wigan are docked 12 points the punishment agreed by all the clubs and one which had been rigidly enforced for years.
    I don’t expect our club to come out and say anything that implies there is any doubt the rules will be applied as normal.

    I expect us to fight back in court if the rules are ignored but I don’t see what would be achieved by making that statement at the moment.

    Basically their former owner who happens to be the new owner has a massive gambling problem. The new owner was a front man apparently to get the initial money back that was paid for the club and also put a loan in place on the club with massive interest rates.

    The betting link comes from the fact they are sponsored by a Philippines betting company who had links to Choi (former owner) and and another director who has supposedly disappeared the day they went into admin. That's it, no concrete evidence other than a Wigan fan secretly filming Rick parry when they were having a conversation on the street where Parry says there are RUMOURS of a large bet in the Philippines for Wigan to be relegated.

    A Wigan fan has done some digging and found links to betting companies and former directors and involved other 3rd parties but its all ifs buts and maybes and would never stand up in court

    But even if it it did stand up in court and they proved be hundred percent that the owner had done some huge betting scam isn't that actually just them?

    It's like whitey asking the EFL to punish Chien Lee and Paul Conway

    Thing is with a Covid claim is the new owner bought the club during the shut down, so he can’t claim not seeing it coming.

    I think the other question is , in the land of gambling what bookie would be dumb enough to take a massive bet out of the blue or a weird betting pattern on something like that!
