Hi folks just spent another 2hrs trawling the gov uk .org Web site to no avail ...im trying to find out what the rules are for a same day return journey ....ie travel abroad lunch time and then return to the UK..later that evening can't find a thing

Does my UK pre flight PCR etc tests cover me for my return journey

..I've telephoned the passport office ..the guy there looked around on the site and couldn't help and in his honest opinion didn't have a clue adding its a nightmare....
I've got the relevant pre flight and return tests booked ( even the company I've booked tests with don't know the answer ) only adding you are in time /date due to time scale of your tests ..but check with airline operator....done that their answer no restrictions just government guidelines apply
I've phoned the 03001232241 re directs you back to Web site I've phoned the border force 03001237000 that turns out to be only operational if reporting a crime....
So big question has anybody either got experience of doing the same day journey or does anybody know the answer

    Thanks in advance

Common sense would suggest you can upload the same test, but that wouldn’t make these companies millions of pounds.

I had to ‘pretend’ I was exempt from a day two test in England the other week on my passenger locator form. I was only back in the country for four days so my day two was also my pre-flight test, if that makes sense, but because I’d booked it as pre-flight it didn’t recognise the Boots reference number. Go figure.

119(?) are apparently pretty good for explaining the travel rules and what testing is needed. Just prepare for a long wait on hold. As you say, the government website is rarely crystal clear on any of this.

Unless you have an exemption on the basis of your job I’m pretty sure that there are no specific rules for that particular scenario. You don’t say where you’re going but as a minimum you’re looking at a Day 2 test on your return and quarantine until the result comes through.

You’re telling me. I’m having a pre-Christmas meltdown right now. Good luck to anyone else trying to fight through the rules and testing to see loved ones and avoid being alone.

I hope you get sorted soon .... I agree the stress is unbelievable ....usually my head rules my heart in times where practicality is needed but in this case of trying to travel my heart is the side running the show....
I'm torn between a rock and a hard place do I go and risk my paper work not being accepted due to no guidelines or do I disappoint my 14year old daughter who I've not seen for almost 2 years and is looking forward to coming here for Christmas......As a family we are all torn what to do for the best....

Feel your pain mate. Awful situation.

I’m sat waiting on a likely positive PCR test coming tonight (had the tiniest of scratchy throats for a few days but nothing bad at all). What that means is I won’t be flying to the US tomorrow for Christmas and New Year - and at some point tonight when it’s confirmed I’ve got to break that news to my partner who’s Dad died of a sudden heart attack three days ago.

******. Sorry to hear that. Grim times. Just do the things you need to do, as well as you can do them. Things will get better.

That sucks. Hoping you’ve just got a minor bug. I had a bit of a sore throat and general mild cold symptoms for a few days a couple of weeks ago and took daily lateral flow tests and all were fine. Hope your test comes back good to fly. Awful news for your lass really sorry

I’ve done 6/7 this week. Very faint positive lines but over 50% of them negative. Sadly false positives aren’t really a thing, so doesn’t look good.

At least I’m perfectly fine health wise

I’d welcome waiting on a pregnancy test right now if I’m honest!

Before I go on....Ben ..Can I offer my heartfelt sincere Condolences to you and your partner...that's a terrible situation to find yourself in far worse than what I was facing
I hope your partners father had a peaceful transition to spirit...
When I say was...I took your advice and phoned 119....i got straight through no waiting and spoke with a guy called Ian who went far and beyond his line of duty really...
He made numerous calls and confirmed that I could travel in and out on my pcr test with a 2 and 8 day return test...
So thank you for pointing me in the right direction...flights and tests booked....

Note anyone planning to travel....its stressful and adds extortionate expenses to your journey costs in my opinion....a right rip off

Glad to hear you’re all sorted mate and can travel with peace of mind. Appreciate your words, and the others above.

No test result yet so still not told my partner I won’t be there tomorrow as planned (unless I’m negative and it’s just a cold!)

Think I’d made myself sick with worry on this one but my ‘by midnight’ PCR test finally came through two minutes ago.

Negative so I’ll be packing as soon as I wake up.
