Looked at Derry City website and Adam Hammill does not seem to have played for them for some time. Any news about Adam who was of our best players and an Oakwell favourite of mine and many others.
No news but I hope he's OK after his struggles. He was be an asset one day for a professional club in England somewhere if he becomes a coach.
I love Adam Hammill. For many reasons. That he's flawed and needs people to care for him. That given a second sliding doors moment when he could have left for money, he stayed. That he was able to admit he had dark times and needed help. That he so openly cared about Norman Rimmington and looked out for him. Let alone his efforts in a Barnsley shirt and the joy of watching an artist do everything he physically could to benefit the team and make the fans happy. It's such a shame how he's drifted down so swiftly in football and I'm worried for him. I'd absolutely love for him to be involved at Oakwell. It's his spiritual home. He's wanted, he's respected, he's loved. Bring him home.
Absolutely love the guy. Aside from his performances for us, when my kids were mascots, and Hammill was only a young lad himself, he was the standout player making the effort with all the mascots. My youngest was only 5/6 years old at the time, and very nervous. He put her at ease, and spent a while talking to her about school etc. Turned the scared look on her face to a broad smile.
Players like him come along very infrequently both on and off the pitch. We all make mistakes in life especially in our formative years. It's the way you come back and try and make ammends. Always remember a video my mate posted on FB. Hammill taking his dog for a walk on Longfields at Darton. Stopped for 10 mins for a kickabout with mates 2 kids. That speaks volumes to me. Lovely blowk who I've met on a few occasions. He'd be an absolute asset to the club in any capacity once his playing career finishes. As far as I'm aware he's never left the area permanently. And those 2 Wembley goals ........ nuff said. Legend.
In my lifetime watching the Reds I have never seen one player have such an effect on a team as he did. Quite astonishing. We’re always overusing the term, but honestly - Legend. If the Club can help him in his hour of need then, after what he did for us, please do so.
Couldn’t agree more; he was a superb player and gave us such special moments but also a lovely, caring guy too. Will never forget the encouragement he gave to my young daughter when he wrote a four page letter to her and then when she actually met him. He is a rare breed.
And itentionally flat batted ;-) But if you play it as high and long as a Helik through ball... what do you expect? ;-)
