I was stood not too far away from these photos and was summoning up the courage to tell a Policeman i was in the wrong end when their fans attacked the away enclosure. Banksy scored a free kick into the Shed End as well. It was interesting trying to find the coaches after the game.

I drove to the match (I lived in Cambridge at the time) and I got myself lost. I saw a lone Chelsea fan and offered him a lift if he showed me the way. He asked me where I was going to stand and said not to go in the away end, but to stand on the Shed near a copper and keep my mouth shut. He said there was trouble planned for half-time. When half-time came, the Shed suddenly emptied and you could see them pouring round the back of the big stand that you can see in my photos and pilled into the Reds fans opposite. Had I not had that advice I would have been in the away end.

Agreed, I've got a shirt, unfortunately a bit small for me now so I've not worn it for donkeys years.

When did we change our floodlights? I always thought we'd had the same ones for donkeys.

Summer of 1989, funded in part by the sale of John Beresford. First game under new lights was a 3-2 win over Stoke.

Was that the 81-82 season when we won 2-1? Only match I ever attended where I got a proper kicking before the match when several hundred skinheads ploughed into us at the turnstyles.

It sure was. I was there but luckily inside the turnstile thus avoiding the kicking that plenty got! There were Chelsea fans coming into the away end all game and the long walk back to the coaches was a nerve wracking experience. Great 2-1 win though by the best Reds side of my life time. Happy days ;-)

I climbed up the old ones for a dare and stood on the box in the middle arms outstretched what a view!

Thanks for posting these pictures and the others - much appreciated. Bring back some evocative memories. Though I wasn't at Stamford Bridge I was definitely at the Halifax & Newcastle games.

I am in the process of building an on line Barnsley FC historical archive and wondered if you would allow me permission to use your pictures on there to be apprciated by a wider audience of football fans.

There is a folder for original photos and yours would be perfect for inclusion. Any acknowledgments you would want would be obviously be given.

Here is a link for the site - there are different albums in there including one for original photos.

    Many Thanks

Fantastic mate, where is the original photo folder? Can I upload them to it or do you want me to email them to you?

    PM me.

I've also got some programmes going back to the late 70s and fanzines (South Riding and Better Red) from the 80s & 90s.
