The attraction of clubs spending unsustainable silly money will fade, there will be true competition in the second tier (the first if you ignore the FA Bigmoneyballs Premier League) and the EFL - for all it's faults - can administer a football league where all can be compelled to play within the rules. The Premier League can go on it's merry way (probably turning into a European League) and we can enjoy the type of football competition we traditionally have with more chance of competing on a level playing field.
Oh, and owners who want to milk a club to use it to grow their money-spinning trainees/transfer projects will hopefully foxtrot Oscar.
Never happen, too much money at stake. TV revenue alone would dwindle off with no chance of promotion. Good idea in principal, but unfortunately principals and football don’t go together
Then it needs to be considered again, because what's the point of people expending money following clubs in Barnsley's position?
I've said before in principle I don't think i would mind this at all. Let the "elite" clubs go and dons they like. They can come and cherry pick the best players, fine. We can get on with real football.
Unfortunately they are even more toothless then the EFL, the only way this will happen is if the PL decide to do it. If you recall Gartside at Bolton tried to push through a few years ago, when in the PL.
It was always Scudamore's intention to end promotion and relegation to and from the Prem. He said that back in 2010 or 2011.
Burnley would be happy with that. Similar size club to us over the last 45 years or so but would be a world apart forever more. Mmm.
The time for the EFL to have cut the Premier League adrift was when it was first incepted. If the EFL were to attempt it now then the PL would set up a PL2 and invite a number of high profile clubs from the EFL to join them and they wouldn't be short of takers.
It would be done on MASSIVENESS, not accomplishment. Out go Burnley, Watford, Bournemouth and Palace. In come the MASSIVE Champions of Europe, Sunderland, Forest and one other. Pull up the drawbridge! The view's lovely here!
The good thing about living in a free world is that people have a choice whether to go or not. If you don’t want to go, nobody is forcing people, nor would it make any difference at all to the people who still went.
How do you decide which clubs will then play in the premier league, surely they would have to be drawn from all league clubs.
What a load of twaddle. Abolishing promotion to the Premier League would give fans at clubs like ours nothing to dream about. You might as well chalk f cuk on it now doing that. Even in League 1 fighting for promotion you dream of only potentially being 1 season away from the Premier League otherwise what's the point?
