It's depressing seeing people here on both sides who I respect aggressively tearing into each other every day. I took part in a couple of political threads a while back but now it's almost half the activity on the board. This is a football forum and I'm sure a lot of people come here to get away from this crap.

At the end of the day whatever you believe in with this whole saga you believe in it because you have good intentions, regardless of your side. You want the area and the country to do well. Nobody is a terrible person for disagreeing with either political stance and we're all Barnsley lads and lasses who want the best for each other. Just remember that when debating. That's all I ask.

    COYR.

Think its time that pen made its appearance on Twitter again to give us all something else to talk about

I completely agree. It's the same arguments over and over again and the rhetoric is poisonous and mindless at times so I no longer even bother reading the crap that is posted. I take a look at other clubs forums and they don't have the same levels of political posting as this forum, they are used for its primary purpose. The way some on here foam at the mouth when posting political posts is embarrassing and there shouldn't be a place for it on a BFC forum.

I honestly think some use this place as a political forum because a lot of the time it's like an echo chamber so it gives them a sense of validation. If they were genuinely interested in proper political debate they'd join a politics forum where proper discussion is held - there are some excellent politics forums on the net.

Don't worry, the season will begin fairly soon and even if we are in the top 2 with a +45 goal difference, we'll be tearing into each other for football reasons instead.
Or rather, football will be the pretext but I think there are some who just like a verbal scrap. It's just the way things are on here. Maybe it's the Viking blood.

Meanwhile, the most recently fascinating post on here about the apparent workings of BFC gets deleted - not we are advised because the post was untrue, but so as to preserve the apparent sensitivities of a former club employee.

So what else but Brexit do the BFC chattering classes find themselves able to talk about, if they can’t post their recollections of chats about the club that they’ve had whilst out for a walk?

A good point sir and while I know exactly which post you're referring to I can't comment on the removal of the post. On the subject of Brexit however all you need to do is look at the table of most replied to posts on this board and you can see a distinct pattern. I like this forum because you can post about just about anything but Brexit completely dominates a board primarily intended for BFC. I know it's pre-season but other forums don't have the same proclivity for wash, rinse, repeat on the same subject.

It's not just pre-season either, it is a racing cert that a Brexit post will get significantly more replies than any other post even during the season - even when a game is on people will log into a BFC forum to reply to a Brexit post. It's strange but there are some who join a BFC forum and hardly ever post about BFC.

It's a forum for discussion, a bit like being in the pub discussing BFC and other issues - except that you can't be racist, sexist or misogynistic. You wouldn't expect a discussion in the pub to be restricted to football so why limit it on here? Also it might be the only opportunity some people get to discuss matters with a wider audience.

Just been announced a guy called Marcus Ball is taking Boris Johnson
to court regarding the claims he made around the cash that could be diverted
to the NHS from EU subsidies, during his time as Lord Mayor of London and on the run up to the
    referendum.

Totally agree G&B. If as is rumoured there is a second referendum , I like to read other people's opinions so as
next time round, knowing more accurate facts than I did previously I can hopefully makethe right decision.
The Miners strike in 1985 had a devastating effect on Barnsley and its people and some's ability to afford continuing
    attending matches at Oakwell.

If we leave the EU without a deal, we don't know of course, but we might see acute austerity which could
inevitably mean , that as far as we are concerned, we may no longer be in a financial position to continue
supporting Barnsley FC. Like anything I see in the press if I don't like, I don't read it, on TV, I turn the set over, or here
on the BBS, I can either blank the poster or ignore what they have to say, but I'd never dream of trying to curb opinion
    on any topic.

A lot of forums seem to have different sub-forums for non-footy chat. Personally, I really enjoy the diversity of topics discussed on the forum, and when people aren't resorting to personal insults, the standard of the debate on here can be very high. However, if people feel that Brexit talk is starting to take over, maybe it would be a good idea to have a politics sub-forum, where people can discuss Brexit to their heart's content, without other posters feeling like the board has been hijacked? Just a thought.
