OMG 21 Years ago today since the twin towers were destroyed. Where as the time gone . Will it get a mention today ? . I've only just realised the date today. So significant in New York
As we can barely get news of the Russian retreat in Ukraine, there’s not likely to be too much about 9/11.
Visited 5 years ago and we are going for New Years this year. 6 people from Yorkshire lost their lives, we're thinking about putting a white rose on each one of their names, they honour everyone's birthday with a rose. https://www.911memorial.org/connect/911-family-members/birthday-roses
Many more thousands died since as a result too, up to 30000 people with illness related to it cancers asbestosis etc
I remember it like yesterday. Next door to my record shop was a bar in Grand Arcade we watched it all in there & shut the shop. We used to send 40% of our records to the USA. 18 months later we went under. At the time was the boom years under Blair. I sustained 30k worth of debt & had to sell my flat. Not as bad as the poor innocent folks that died in the US, Iraq & the armed forces. Was still bad though I had no heating or hot water for 12 months in my flat prior to selling it. It destroyed my relationship with my girlfriend at the time too. With the cost of living crisis I can see how bad it will be for others. I now live in a well insulated 1 bedroom flat & business is OK, despite me seeing a bit of a chasm in hospitality next year, I'll be OK. Nothing good comes from wars. The USA has a lot to answer for. They created Putin & Boris took his cash.
As strangely reoccurring date for me… On September 11, 1939 German forces crossed the River San in Poland and into my father’s village. On September 11, 1994 my brother and me crossed the River San in search of my father’s village – “a place that doesn’t exist where everyone was dead” according to him. On September 11, 1952, a finback whale was harpooned off Trondheim, loaded on a lorry and ended up in Barnsley On September 11 1940 Flt/Sgt Mervyn Sprague was posted ‘missing in action’ after his Spitfire failed to return from combat over the Channel. The Sprague family lived a few doors away from me in the 30s. Their house was destroyed by a bomb two days before his death.
