22years old and a back catalogue anyone with a 60yesr career would have been proud of .
First heard of Buddy similar time I started watching reds as a very young boy and was so impressed I’ve been a fan ever since.

Fantastic what he achieved for his age, the amount of musicians he influenced and how well his music is still remembered today.

True Love Ways, Oh Boy, That Will Be The Day and Peggy Sue. The list of tunes is timeless enough for all ages to appreciate because he was ahead of his time.

Crystal is a total Angel .... has to be.

 

Most of the early sixties pop groups were influenced by Buddy inc the Beatles .
He was truly s musical genius

 

Don was in a film on TV on the life of Buddy Holly " Rave On" which I watched last week. His music is timeless.
How lucky was Waylon Jennings.? He was the bass player in Buddy's band on that
ill fated tour and Buddy allocated Waylon a seat on the plane. The Big Bopper was suffering from flu'
so Waylon voluntarily gave him his seat and the Bopper was killed.
Had the pleasure of meeting Sonny Curtis who played lead guitar in The Crickets. A very modest man,
who as a tribute to his former front man, ran through a set of Buddys hits, on what for everyone present, was a
very emotional night.

Yes they were both mentioned in the programme as being killed alongside Buddy.
Some famous names from back then like Dion ( of Runaround Sue fame) also paid
tribute to the great Texan. Bit of a lump in the throat when Buddys widow Maria Elena
broke down to say that had she gone on the tour as they had originally planned, Buddy would
never have chartered the plane. As it was, she discovered she was pregnant with their first
child, so she decided to stay home. When she was told of Buddys death, such was the shock,
she unfortunately miscarried. Very very sad.

 

The Musical Buddy in the second half re enacts the last concert before their deaths Featuting Big Bopper Ritchie Valens etc .
Dion went on to front the Crickets in place of Buddy as well as with the Belmont’s .
He had known Maria Elena a matter of days before asking her to marry him .

 

Started watching Barnsley,bloody hell seems like a lifetime.
