Me and one of the lads at work (Leeds fan) were reminiscing about away days the other day, and I told him about Altrincham. November, 4 degrees, got soaked waiting my brother picking me up from work in Leeds, mile walk looking for a pub and being warned by a local to stay away as they were full of Man U fans. Beer in the ground in the rain, no roof on the way end, losing 1-0, terrible performance, 8 straight defeats, bottom of the league (nearly), worst performance ever, flu. And I'd do it all again tomorrow in a heartbeat.
Revolting day and one of the low points in all my years of support. I thought the introduction of Lloyd Isgrove was some sort of Ali Dia type mix-up made by the scouting team.
Luckily, I had a seat in the stand so avoided the wet. That apart it wasn’t a great day. Almost got left behind in Warrington by the coach following pre-match drinks. Called for a pint in the pub near the ground before departing and trouble broke out. Not going to mention the game and result.
Five years!! Fek me where the fek has time gone? Seems like yesterday , wasn’t there but the Thread count on here about it went through the roof .
I can't recall why, but I got there ridiculously early, so was one of the first Reds fans to get into the ground. So much so, that I actually got to take pictures before it started raining. Sod's law that this was a day where I could literally pick my viewing point. The whole day was surreal, but things had go so bad under LJ by then that there was a certain gallows humour among everyone that they would not be surprised to see us lose. It didn't make anyone any less angry when it happened, but no one could claim to have been shocked by it.
