Remember it well. Truly awful scenes and to think they actually played that game. Just what the players thought about taking to the field. I certainly felt so uncomfortable watching that game. RIP to the 39.
End of that season was quite lively... there was the Millwall riot at Luton. The Bradford fire, same day a young lad died at Birmingham. Then Heysel. No wonder attendances dropped considerably throughout the country.
1985 was the year football definitely didn't come home. Over 100 lives ( or so) lost in the name of "football". I was lucky enough to speak to a survivor of the Bradford fire. I was part of a group that walked from Oakwell to Valley Parade 10 years ago. That supporters story was harrowing to hear.
14 liverpool fans were jailed for manslaughter, all english clubs banned from europe, there's a reason it doesn't come up as much as hillsbrough
Currently reading a book called ‘56’ about the Bradford fire. Written by a survivor who lost his dad, brother, grandad and uncle in the fire. Harrowing read at times.
