Not sure what it will do to my finances, but they need to close schools. My son has enough health issues as it is, Sheffield children’s hospital been like a second home for us since he was abart 8 month old. He’s 7 now and still under Sheffield.
It's a difficult call because as soon as schools are closed, parents have to stay away from work and this will impact on our emergency services.
Some schools have contacted parents asking them to inform school if they work in the emergency services as they will open to their children with a skeleton staff.
I was hoping that there would be some kind of contingency plan in place to alleviate the impact school closures could have. There are obvious flaws but it sounds like a step in the right direction.
Ye this is the issue. Obviously me and the missus would take turns to stay off work. But she is self employed so no income if not working. Not sure how it would affect me yet income wise. I do get quite a lot of days off in my job so would see what suits us best
On the schools issue a lot of stuff is done via computer these days, meaning distanced learning is possible. I'm not sure where this might leave the poorest kids though,
I know I will struggle to get my son to do the work set, so if you have nt got a parent at home, or a computer not much will get done by probably the ones that could do with it the most. Plus kids losing out on fsm. Not going to be easy.
Thanks, that is the real issue. There is no way Labour could have had universal broadband in place by now had they won, but in this instance it would have been a massive help. It is something that needs to be sorted, however far fetched it may have seemed as a policy. Hope Boris takes it on board, we're stuck with him for 5 years, or the end of our natural lives.
Where did you hear this? Did they contact you? My other half works closely with local schools and she's not heard owt. We live other side of town and none of her mates have messaged her to...yet. Cheers
Cheers, thanks for that. Bloody awful this. My other half works for Barnsley College so like most folk working in educational establishments she waiting for the instruction to either close or work from home (the best they can). It's the not knowing that creates anxiety and confusion. Thanks again.
It makes sense imo for the govt to ask all parents who can to remove their kids from school. For those who can't they can still go. This not only reduces transmission risk but keeps kids in school if their parents cant make it. Parents often look after other parents kids to help each other out.
