I've looked but can't find exactly what was engraved on the cup when we won. Anyone got an image? Cheers in advance.
Nearest I’ve come across is this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FA_Cup I think we were inscribed Under the “Teams Like” section.
Apologies if I'm misunderstanding you, but the name of the club and the year were engraved on the base. However, most of the older ones have been polished away. I've got my picture with it somewhere (the 1911 version) and Barnsley was not visible. Some of the clubs that have won it in recent times have re-engraved their previous victories.
I've got the book " Lifting the Cup- The story of battling Barnsley 1910-1912" by Mark Metcalfe and David Wood ISBN 1-845631-36-6 It's 169 pages long and gives in depth details over our Cup Final loss versus Newcastle at Goodison Park on 28th April 2010 and our win against West Brom at Bramall Lane on April 24th 1912. I cant see anywhere in the book about what was engraved on the trophy but there's a shot in the book of the team with the Cup.
I think I read somewhere that the goal in which we scored was in Derbyshire but the rest of the ground was in Yorkshire.
Just spotted that "Lifting the Cup- the story of battling Barnsley" is available on Amazon. It says there a free Kindle download, but I've not tried that.
Chester City's Deva Stadium is in Wales - the adjacent front car park is in England - could cause problems when the Taffs get Independence ??
Correct young man... Most of the ground at the time was in Yorkshire but the goal post at one side of the ground were in fact in Derbyshire don't forget before the alterations to the ground Yorkshire also played cricket there
You need Turvey Tyke. He posts on here sometimes. He co-wrote the book "Lifting the Cup- The story of battling Barnsley 1910-1912"
Is this an urban myth? I've just looked at a map from 1904 and there's no suggestion a county boundary runs through Bramall Lane Cricket Ground.
