Do we have anyone on here who knows about or collects old coins? I've come into possession of a few, from circulated George III florins to sealed packs of early decimal. If we have anyone who might be interested in them or could advise me on where to find out if any are of value, please get in touch

E bay sold price not what they want is a fair guess of the going price. It also depends on the condition.

There is an Antique bring and buy on the 5th of September at the Bluebell pub "think thats what its new name is" on the roundabout where the old Dodworth pit used to be.

I doubt the early decimal stuff is worth a light tbh....coins generally are not that valuable unless they're rare and in excellent condition.

I know a fair bit about coins, and I can tell you that you certainly haven’t got any George III florins.

Fair enough. My mistake. I'll have another look. Deffo George III, possibly just 1 shilling then

I don't know anything about coins but a search for "how much are my old coins worth" brought up dozens of websites and apps for just such a purpose.

I don't know anything about florins either but google suggests they weren't minted until 100 years after George III reign. But it also says a Florin is a two shilling denomination so I don't know what's going on there.

Yes fair enough. They aren't florins. That is what it said on a scrap of paper in the platic bag with the coins in.

I've looked at some sites for a clue and have seen what appear to me to be identical coins to one of the haul I have, go for anything from £10 to £200. They all say never clean old coins but the better preserved examples sell for far more. Sadly it's not as simple as typing in year and denomination and getting an accurate valuation. So I wondered if anyone on here had an interest in these things, that's all.

I know mate, I wasn't criticising. I was curious about the depth of resources out there and there seemed to be a lot. Being unable to offer anything else, I posted that, in case you fancied dipping your toe in while waiting for someone who, unlike me, actually knows what they're talking about!

As someone who collects antique chess sets, I'm guessing that the £10 coin and the £200 coin can look very similar to anyone who isn't an expert in the field.

If it's not already been mentioned, do not clean any coins in your collection.
