4:30 yesterday afternoon the last few tiles were grouted into our new 105 square metre patio and the new patio furniture was carefully arranged overlooking the fields next door. At 23:00 three Oak tree branches, weighing around 2.3 / 3 tons crashed down, turning the furniture into scrap aluminium and the fencing into matchwood. This follows a large beech tree branch coming down a couple of weeks ago along with a spruce in the field shedding large branches. This dry weather is getting to them. Anyone else getting the same problems?
Yes, lost quite a few trees over the last few years. Had to take half a dozen down earlier this year before they came down. Should be good for firewood for the winter though.
Hearing @Bossman lost about 70 acres of ancient oak from his east-facing garden. But seriously I empathise. A bit of moisture the last couple of days but barely enough to moisten the lawns. Some of the larger trees round here are seriously shedding leaves and smaller branches
False autumn. Lots of leaves and branches down as trees go into survival mode. Ironic we need them more than ever. Glad you’re safe.
Our apple tree isn’t faring too well. No branches down but losing a lot of leaves. We’ve been keeping a bowl in the sink to collect any water we run during the day and emptying it outside onto the trees. It’s crazy how much water we normally waste just washing our hands or running it cold for a drink for example. Just the kitchen sink alone fills up at least 4 times a day that would have just gone down the plug hole.
Same - we have a combi boiler (instant hot water - yeah right) that takes an age to warm up in the bathroom. 2 buckets of water that would go straight down the drain now used for emergency gardening
On the plus side, plenty of stuff for your firepit once you get your patio fixed and some new furniture.
Thankfully there wasn’t any damage to your helipad, if the same had happened in our south facing garden, the pool would have been a right mess
E.I. Addio in thinly veiled "I live in a mansion" post. Although I do of course hope that you and your family (and any staff who may have been on the premises at the time) are safe and well.
Well most of it went into the ha ha but the startled peacocks on the sweeping lawns flew off in alarm. Just as well the tree missed the colonnades and chapel otherwise I'd have nowhere to give thanks for all my incredible wealth. Italianate marble doesn't come cheap y'know.
So the stories of you surgically enhancing illegally imported thoroughbred Italian stallions with horns and wings aren't true?
