I'm happy with that, it's the kind of experience and defender we need at this level.

We have to get out of this division otherwise we could be here for years watching the quality of player diminish, then our only hope is the academy.

Deary me, despite all the health issues he’s just not a very good defender, so it’s not improving us at all is it. It just smacks of desperation.

Given we have no back up centre half as things stand, I would suggest it is improving us.

on the bare face of it it improves us. MDG and Earl are not good enough. to have to score 3 goals every week to win isn't going to get us anywhere. Long term we obviously need better, be it in the this league or above but for now a stop gap will do.

It would make sense knows the club and area and more importantly won't cost a fortune. Hourihane for all his been positive of mdg he already said he doesn't see him as a centre half. It's a yes from me.

Can't hurt us on a short term deal whilst Roberts is injured.

Not that I'd ever dream of picking him but MVDdG is touch and go for Saturday with an injury I hear. Maybe they sign 'Gus from what's freed up by Slowpata's anticipated departure. If so, no real risk or net cost. A bit meh but as a sticking plaster, needs must.

Still need that Bobby Thomas type loan in though if we are going to stay competitive at the top end.

Deep breath, I'm not convinced he'll be any better than what we already have. There, I've said it.

If he’s just short-term cover for Robbo, then I sort of get it, but I was hoping we could do a little better.

Not the greatest defender we've ever had but a long way from the worst. And when he played for us he was in a higher division against much better strikers. The more I think about this, the more I reckon it could be a very shrewd move. In any case he must be better than what we've currently got.

'Some budget'.. the release clause figure was reported at 250k. Our offer was described as derisory.. make of that what you will..
And don't forget we've been looking since May.. and the best we can get is Angus McDonald till Christmas..
But not to worry everyone knows all the best signings are late in the window..

    *Derisory* ridiculously small or inadequate

I don't disagree about the pace aspect, but having looked on Exeter's forum, they're all saying they need a commanding centre half 'like Angus'. It does appear that they broke the bank to sign him in deadline day in January, knowing they couldn't maintain his wage demands long term, hence why he's been released. It seems he did well there because he was good aerially, not inspite of it.

I bet our bid for Thomas wasn’t even 100k. To be described as derisory it must have been really low.
Going to be frustrating that we look to have got some great attacking players but then back it up with a defence akin to a sieve.
