Given we don't want them, and their agents know we don't want them, so the clubs getting them know we don't want them... More than we'd like. It won't be til next season where we can ship more wasted wages off the books. Hopefully we don't add future wasted wages in the mean time.
Bought in 2023 / on our books until 2026 and will have made 4 appearances for us by the time he leaves. another great signing.
A cheap punt that didn’t work out. Which is exactly where we should be at. If it worked like Shepard looks to have were in the money, if not it hasn't hurt us too much, unless we have too many of em..
Some work out and some don't. Unfortunately, he didn't - amongst a plethora of other didn'ts - but it appears we're now slowly turning the corner. Glad he's got a club and glad we've moved him on. Now it’s just taxis for Kelechi and Jackson.
His net cost will be negligible - his wages will have been covered by the clubs signing him. He wasn’t put on a ‘league one’ salary in the first place. Took a punt on him; hadn’t been fancied by the managers we’ve had; he’s made a career for himself at a lower level. Good luck to him.
My brother in law is a Southend supporter he’s asked me how good Dallas is I’ve told him JR and Sue Ellen are alright but rest of them are rubbish , his reply was ‘ really , that bad’
Signings from summer 2023 to January 2025: Killip Lopata Shepherd Watters Dallas O’Keeffe Lofthouse de Gevigney Atkinson Cosgrove Pines Earl Hourihane Roberts Smith Barratt West Gent Nwakali Humphrys Keillor-Dunn Farrugia Lewis That’s a 23-man squad. With only one player you’d call an undoubted success. Grim reading from a recruitment POV.
Also I’m sure a fair chunk of that is us paying wages we can’t afford on a long term basis for barely any return.
Wonder how much it's cost us to loan out the 3 right wing backs on that list and to sign another who doesn't look any better than the three we've loaned out.
He’s a more disciplined defensive-minded right back than an attacking wing back. According to folk I’ve spoken to and the software I use. He has played in both positions though, depending on coach and system I guess. A bit like us signing folk then playing them elsewhere. I’ve no idea if he’ll be any good, but all signs suggest he’s a more disciplined defender, wins more tackles, good in the air, compared to the lads we’ve sent away. O’Keeffe and Cotter are on loan, we sold Lofthouse. I don’t think any have a future here. But I can’t disagree with any argument that suggests we’ve p*ssed a lot of cash up the wall in the last couple of years.
We look at managers win % 5 of those players are in or around the 1st team - so that’s a 21.7% hit rate for signings actually making it into the team. Then it’s subjective after that I guess if you think they are actually any good anyway, but I think the first thing is you’d want purchases to be playing for you. Is 21.7% of players you scout and recruit being actually good enough to be in the team good bad or indifferent? Interesting to think about. There’s certainly a good few on that list we might as well have not bothered with.
I wasn't having a dig at the new guy. He's a league 1 right sided defender and that's the market we're in. But the money we must have spent to end up with a 28 year old league 1 free transfer is f***ing ridiculous.
