Assuming no new signings Cooper Bland MDG Earl Ogbeta Connell Phillips Yoganathan Vickers McGoldrick DKD Subs Flavell Barratt Kelly Russell Cleary Farrugia Woodcock I'd have Lopata and Dallas on bench but they seem out of favour having not featuring in Pre Season
I have a feeling Russell may come in for Yoganathan at some point, perhaps for this one. We haven't really had the chance to see whether Conor is a 'don't change a winning team' kind of manager yet... he hasn't had any to change
Think he offers a goal threat and was one of our better players- still a few wrinkles need ironing out with Yonganathan especially his tacking
I agree he offers a goal threat but so does Yoganathan. If he doesn't like being reserve with a year left and having not signed a new deal. He'd remain second choice.
Russell as also shown his other side too so its Yogi for me. Personally feel that Yogi playing is why Connel is looking better.
With Phillips, DKD and Mcgoldrick i think theres less need for Russells goals.Yoganathan is much more dynamic both in build up and off the ball. If its late in the game and Burton are parking the bus Russell is fine to bring on, but it should be a competitive game in the first hour. Saying that Connell, Russell and Phillips would be more effective if we want to see them off early, its after an hour it starts falling apart. Maybe Yoganathan would be better for away games and at home games against decent sides.
Yeah i keeping changing my mind, i trust Conor to know if he needs goals vs legs for which team we're playing against but its nice to have the option this year
Russell was our most productive midfielder last season he should be playing before yogi for me. The reason connell is looking better I'd argue is to do with us going 433? Or he was just really meh last season but was good in the game at Plymouth so hopefully more of the same.
I do think it's the formation / system which mostly allows Connell to do well. But I do think he gets a tonne more defensive help from Yoga, even just closing down/occupying deeper spaces which Russell doesn't do, or as much anyway
This is a great opportunity for Yoganathan. He has come off the back of a good season and now has the chance to prove he deserves a regular start in games. The ball is in his court. Seems like Connor gives players a chance and will stick with them, especially if they perform highly. Remember he wouldn’t bring in an emergency loan keeper and rather back our youth last season. Yoganathan in my opinion needs to contribute to games now, not just play well. Pick up assists, a few goals, present in helping across the park and causing problems consistently (like his run for our 1st goal free kick).
