Why did we sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone'? I think we used to sing 'Marching on Together' around that time too iirc. I'm not trying to take anything away from such a special moment, but I just wondered, why that song?
Gave me Goosebumps. Matched at Anfield by our lot in 1982. Even the kop clapped our rendition. Given there was more of us than them that night. I'm guessing that may be the only time that ever happened at Anfield if figures are right. And quite possibly more Barnsley fans than at the game against Bradford.
Guessing. I know it's associated with Liverpool. But by far the most memorable of all football songs. The meaning of the words in particular. Was used at many grounds.by many clubs and a great melody. Sang like in that video. Raises emotions no other can match imo. Don't forget the scarf waving that also makes it special.
Football anthem I guess.. But that game and the following season was the pinnacle for us, not the norm.. Just a fleeting moment. Enjoy the past memory but don't live in it..
Marching on Together was definitely Hunter / Clark era. Along with the tracksuit tops and the centre circle crowd wave. Made me cringe then, makes me cringe now.
Fail to see your point. ?. Most songs are used by most clubs. Very few have their own established one associated with them. Liverpools being the main one adopted. Then Southamptons. Liverpool 'YNWA' Man city.'Blue moon' West ham 'Forever blowin bubbles' Newcastle 'Blaydon races' Southampton 'Saints go Marching in' Lxxds 'x£^^/^:,*&" I guess ours would have to be Just like watching Brazil. The original. Adopted by others. Then I'm starting to struggle Tbh. Feel sure there will be others.
It’s a bit like today when fans of all clubs seem to sing the same songs, but just change a few details. I remember us singing the ‘ Play up Pompey’ song. If you watch some of old videos you can hear it - “I-O Barnsley”.
