Spot on. Regarding transfers. New isn't always better and might be to the detriment of the young players coming through. As it stands the midfield is probably Connell, Russell. Or Connell, Phillips. You could substitute Kelly in there too. However, you have to remember there is a path to the first team for Yoganathan and/or Bland. How's that dynamic going to work? I reckon Yoganathan is ready.

I doubt if either Russell or Phillips will be here by the end of August.

A couple of points. Opinions are Just that. It's when they are scrutinised to the bone and folk won't accept any one else's opinion going as far as to say. "No one else thinks that" I honestly don't care and will fight my corner with reasons why. That's when it becomes an utter waste of time. And time to bow out. Agree to disagree.
On football or the like. Folk may not agree with others views. But should be able to respect em. (Some can't and are the worse for it)
    Politics etc I get.

On Shepherd. I genuinly don't know if he has a mistake in him every game as he hasn't played for us for 20 months or so. And tbh didn't pick upon it when he played those few games for us. Certainly no more than any other player in my memory. You may well be right.
The biggest ever culprit for me in those stakes, was Dennis Souza. Loved by most fans, not yours truly.
One of my all time greats for Barnsley was capable of the odd mistake.
Paul Futcher, but what a class act.

As for MDG I've given an opinion. But I wouldn't value it better than Connors, as his coaches see him every day and knows what his strengths and weaknesses as a player are. And hopefully anything he sees not happening will be acted on. That's why we need coaches to work on those aspects of a players game.

I truly hope it works out but even so we need new players in that defence be it 1st choice or cover.

Defensively, the jury is going to be out til we see how they are set up and how much pressure we put on the ball out of possession.

If we can have a stable pairing that have time to establish a partnership, I think that can help. If the back line become less ambitious and prioritise defensive shape. If midfield keep shape and have one midfielder who provides cover. And if we only ever have one full back advance. Then I could see improvements.

We have to concentrate better and for longer and most importantly, reduce the huge amount of individual errors that cost so many goals last year. If we can halve those mistakes, our defence would be much less porous.

    This.
If the team press high successfully then there is much less pressure on the defence and as a result less likely to make a mistake.

If I remember correctly this was the tactic under big Val.
He didn't trust his defence (at the time) so told them to boot it up front. We had the players there to press and harrass the opposition defence and it worked. We had a multiple choice of good attackers who we could swap around when those playing got tired.
We don't have many at the moment who will press and chase, unless that has been sorted.
