My lad went to one of his football schools for a bit up at silk stone and on the first session he asked my lad who he supported. When he said Barnsley, he told him to ask his dad “what sort of hat I had?” Top bloke in my limited opinion.

In the days when giving a player some stick was harmless banter and they were a breed who just laughed it off.
Wishing him all the best and plenty more years wearing that hat.

sang along with the rest about his hat, but as far as I was concerned it was all good natured. He always ( well mainly) seemed to take it in good humor. Was a really good player and always seemed a decent bloke.

Sad news, while he was the target of Barnsley fans' ribald chants, we all appreciated his ability. I was there at Millmoor for the 4-2 win where Ronnie scored twice in a truly memorable game.

    I reckon t@at doesn't rhyme with cap.
A true legend who loved the limelight. And had the admiration of most of our fans In later yrs. Rarely ever went overboard when he scored against us, just went to his own fans in the main. Unlike Sammy.
One of mi workmates lived close by to him in Maltby, very down to earth apparantly.
Hopefully many more years left in him yet.

While it's impossible to predict individual prognoses, in England, approximately 85% of myeloma patients survive for at least one year after diagnosis, and around 55% survive for five years or more, with 30% living 10 years or longer

I was at the game when he pinched a spectators flat cap and put it on backwards. I loved him from that moment on. What a guy. Best wishes Ronnie.

Sad news indeed, wishing Ronnie all the very best.
    A great bloke is Ronnie.
Many moons and a different life time ago
I was booked to do the Rotherham United players Christmas party
To be honest I died on my hacienda although I wasn't the only one that year, Stan Boardman also failed big time down in Southampton, infact David Hirst came to the rescue there, and finished for him. No such Luck for me, admittedly
We weren't the only two who's humour died that year, Stan being the biggest name amongst us
As I stated I'd died on my backside but in my defence the lads were more interested in the girls that were preforming and who amongst them was getting involved.the afternoon passed and I was packing up my gear, when I was suddenly aware that one certain player was having a heated argument with one of his colleagues and my name was mentioned twice
Anyway no name no packdrill the said player approaches me and tells me I'm not getting my £250 fee for the afternoon as he didn't find my act funny was sh.1t and that I was w/ anchor amongst other stuff.
I didn't argue, other than to say I've heard at least 3, 000 every week sing shout and say the same thing about you and surely they all can't be wrong pal. Adding your not paying me to tell jokes or to compare
You're paying me to keep my mouth shut and not to run to the News of the World with what I've witnessed, but you don't want to pay me that's fine
I can make much more selling my story.
As all this was taking place Both Ronnie and John Breckin were taking notice. When suddenly John asked me is there a problem Bry,
You know me John I replied I've no problem with anyone, other than this Tos*er telling me he isn't paying me.
At that point Ronnie got involved told the said player to pay me double my fee and A further £100 for embarrassing Rotherham football club adding and that is all coming out of your own pocket. See you in my office Monday morning before turning to me and apologising adding John myself and other members of the team have enjoyed the afternoon
So yeah Ronnie is a top bloke.

‘Not curable, but treatable’ so hopefully Ronnie will be wearing his hat for considerable time to come.

    All the best Ronnie.

What a player, what a character but more importantly what a gentleman.
Loads of Barnsley fans sang that song out of respect to a very very good player.

Good luck in your fight Ronnie, if you show the same fight as you did on the pitch you'll be fine.
Am I right in thinking he was trying to come on as sub for Cardiff and the lino wouldn't let him on because of the boots he was wearing, much to our amusement, cue another rendition of his signature tune:D

Now that WAS funny. Would be frowned upon by today's PC standards but hilarious in the seventies.

He took it well. I used to stand on the old North Terrace and one game he was warming up on the touchline in front of us before coming on as sub. He got the song full blast. He started doing stretching exercises which involved bending from the waist with his back to us. While bent, he carefully rolled down the back of his shorts and flashed his arse at us. Nobody but the crowd saw it. Top man. Got him a round of applause.
