This is exactly the thing what winds me up. Its rare I see a thread which doesn't turn into Mael bashing, on completely different topics. Its mental.
See we have a way to go for incorporating chat GPT into football. Having said that Mladan relying heavily on this would explain a lot of our transfers, especially Rodriguez.
The stats are compared to other players in his positions. The only one that isn't factual is his rating. Stats can be incredibly misleading, agreed.
It isnt just Mladen though bud. Majority of clubs use statistical data like this to determine transfers etc.
There's nowt wrong with folk having negative opinions about players if that's what they genuinely think mate. Head coaches can indeed pick who they like from the squad but if they've got limited options they're going to pick the same players to a degree. I'm not attacking or defending MDG by the way, just saying that some people think he's pretty crap. What I do think happens sometimes is that people just pile on - herd mentality - simply because that's the prevailing attitude. If people genuinely think he's crap though, and particularly if they explain why, then, personally, I dont have a problem with it.
AI will look for data on the internet. If it doesn't exist, it can't create it or observe it from a visual source to give its own opinion, it will therefore omit glaring factors. It can't determine his lack of pace, giving the ball away, falling over the ball, weakly trying to roll a player and not being strong enough to do so, his constant need to amp up mistakes after he's just made one, his lack of ability to read the game, his recklessness and impetuosity. There were plenty of factors why we conceded lots of goals last year. DeGevigney was one. That Hourihane has effectively said he won't play him at centre half perhaps shows what he truly thinks of him.
Like that, he isn’t my favourite player as I don’t think he has the necessary attributes to be a centre half in a league 1 promotion seeking side(that’s what I hope we aspire to be btw). What has worried me a little is Hourihane saying he isn’t slow and will be playing him at right back, now Conor knows football far better than me but unless my eyes are deceiving me MDG isn’t the quickest, I honestly hope he makes a great job in his new position as I think most on here do. My gut feeling however is that he will show that he hasn’t the pace or positional sense to succeed.
A well known saying is that a full back is a failed winger or a failed CB, hopefully it fits well. I like him, depending on who we get at RB determines him being a starter or not. Really wish he succeeds.
My biggest issue with MDG. Was the fact that during the last 2 friendlies he left his opponent. Drifting to the middle. The wingers were given free rein to run straight into the area. I'm just hoping the coaching staff can get him out of that habit.
I think it’s worth discussing personally. It is a football discussion board, after all. our defence was atrocious last season. I witnessed him make a lot of mistakes. More than other defender, but they’re all culpable. Yet we have decided to retain him. he seems a lovely bloke but @Merde Tete is too and he would be nowhere near my Barnsley defence.
Thought exactly the same, got left for dead due to a lack of pace then drifted inside leaving an overlapping wide man complete freedom.
Only seen the Harrogate friendly but exactly this. He wandered inside on 3 or 4 occasions leaving their winger acres of space. He got away with it against weak opposition but in 95% of league games he won’t.
Forget the stats and data and listen to people who pay to sit and watch with their own eyes...then ask why most of them say he's just not very good. As Hooky said he watched him wander out of position, that's because it's not a natural position for him, most of the time his normal game is ball carrying through the middle from the back and in a L2 team he may even look decent playing that role just in front of defence. sadly we don't have that role for him so he's the square peg. Lofthouse found himself in a similar situation as a RWB and left..MDG needs to do the same.
No they don't. And neither does Sormaz. I can't imagine there are any professional clubs that don't use data analysis to help identify players (although, contrary to belief, that's not the only method in modern football, not even for us). Mladen Sormaz is a firm advocate of its use and built a good reputation from his expertise in the field (despite what anyone may think of him, he was highly respected when he was offered his position at Barnsley) . And one thing he doesn't do is get his data or his analysis from Chat GPT.
