Do players need to be registered to play in friendlies? Perhaps the loan hasn't even been fully completed?
When people on here say.. 'why don't we give our own young lads a run in the side instead of loaning other clubs youngsters in..?'.. Just take a look at where our own youngsters get loaned out to.. Peterborough Sports, Buxton, Worksop, Guiesley.. Marshy went to York couldn't get a game and was sent back.. Then folk are up in arms and baffled when these young lads get released. At that level our youngsters ort to be head and shoulders above the rest Or at the very least be a stand out player. Like Yoganathan at Oldham.. look classy at that level. If this club is to be successful it vital our academy steps up a couple of gears.. Good players aren't coming through often enough for our academy to be labelled anywhere near a success. I don't know what the problem is but there definitely is one. If those at the top don't know a good thing from something that's poor and underperforming, they're all business men and women, just look at the bottom line and start there. How much it costs against how much income it creates.. Sorry for going over the same stuff.. but until both our recruitment and academy is addressed... This club is going nowhere.
I don't think there's a problem with our academy. Its modern football. Anything decent we produce usually gets swept up straight away, look at Wilkinson for instance. Personally, I think we have a very decent crop at the moment. Flavell, Bland, Yoga, Jalo. Perhaps even Graham and Farrell in the next year or two. I've no issue where they play when they're this young, mens football, competitive, is better for them. Hopefully the likes of Kozluk and McCann can make a substantial impact for us in the near future. There's very few players at lower league academies what actually stay in the lower leagues when they get to the age of about 16, if they're head and shoulders above everyone else.
Absolutely, it’s hardly been a secret has it that PL teams ‘hoover-up’ all the prospective talent either directly into their own Academies or by the ‘stealing’ prospects from EFL clubs. Wilkinson isn’t the first to leave our Academy before establishing himself in the first team squad and will not be the last. Others, I believe have not got as far as making a first team appearance. However, that doesn’t mean our Academy is a waste of time, we should always look to try and nurture/develop promising local youngsters.
The academy at Oakwell is still living off John Stones and they didn't even know / couldn't tell how good he was.
'Think' being the operative word. It may have been arranged by the SD and not get round to the media team till Monday.
No it’s not, just certain ‘fans’ saying that. Apparently the late Patrick Cryne said he didn’t know how good he was, but The Academy will have known how good he was but they don’t get a say on transfers and fees.
