I thought Daniel Nardiello could have gone on to be a brilliant forward. I was a huge fan of his but he never really kicked on. Injuries and going to QPR seemed to hamper his progress. I was a big fan of Chris Shuker and thought he'd end up a top Championship winger. Carl Barrowclough too, who looked exciting around 2001 time. I was excited about and enjoyed watching Dale Jennings. Only we could have Jennings and Mccourt, two of the most maverick players on the football league, and it work out so disappointingly. One more random one... but I thought Diego Leon had bags of talent and flair. He did some wonderful things but was totally inconsistent.
I was so excited about Jennings coming. Hadn't seen him play since his days at Tranmere before his huge move to Bayern. He looked a potential world beater before joining them. Anyway, safe to say I was disappointed. Hes still only 32 now.
I always thought John Stones had the skill and ability to achieve great things in the game but sadly I've lost track of him once he left Oakwell.
Steven Bahre. I really rated this guy, thought he was brilliant. Never reached the heights he could’ve unfortunately.
Ronnie Glavin. However did we manage to hang on to him for as long as we did? 73 goals in 173 appearances, and absolutely oozed quality. Obviously he was at his peak and did his "kicking on" at Oakwell, but it beggars belief that he came to us at all and that a bigger club didn't nip in and whisk him away to greater things. Thank God they didn't...
Weren't Liverpool going to sign him instead of Dalglish but decided not to due to off pitch problems? Shows just how good he was.
Wow that has blown my mind, still only 32! What a massive shame and waste of talent, the big move to Bayern seemed to be his downfall, as bizarre as that sounds.
Vaz Te. Dont know if it was his attitude or something else behind the scenes, but he looked like he'd be a world beater when he came through at Bolton. Then floated around doing very little for a few years. Only signed for us because noone else wanted him but after he went to West Ham i was expecting him to go Global.. but again he just dropped off. Guy had all the tools.
Rory Fallon. Was billed as the star of the post Premier League generation of young academy players, but he never went on to play at a level much above us (arguably Aberdeen). He represented England right up to the u20s so I expected quite a bit more from him than what we got. To be fair, it didn't help that he got injured early on for us though.
Daryl Dike in recent years. Injuries been plaguing him but he looked the real McCoy while on loan with us. Hope he has a great career.
What a great thread. I thought that Colin Brookes, Eric Brookes and Eric Winstanley would have all ultimately played for top clubs but didn't. Possibly Eric Winstanley's loyalty to the reds cost him his opportunity.
