Barnsley Football Club can confirm that Corey O’Keeffe has joined Stockport County on a season-long loan deal. The 27-year-old defender, who joined the Reds in 2023 from Forest Green Rovers, will link up with the League One outfit for the 2025/26 campaign. Everyone at Oakwell wishes Corey the very best of luck. Continue reading...
Not much effort put in to that....Not even a comment from Conor or someone else explaining the decision.
Didn’t realise he will still have another year left next summer. Bet we’ll still be paying a big chunk of his wages while on loan too. No wonder we’re skint….
Great news though. A terribly brain dead player - looks ok one min next min he’s never been a footballer. Definitely made Stockport a weaker team.
Why would we be paying his wages? Hes gone to a club who finished higher than us, not a league 2 or below club. Id be shocked if we are paying any of his wages mate - and very disappointed.
What do you want . Well he wasn't up to our expectations ,so we sent him out on loan to one of our rivals . To at least give us a chance for 6 points. Can't fault the club ,especially if they can get someone to take Watters. Fingers crossed he likes Dundee cake
I still find the strategy of the club baffling. They insisted on a back 3 & wing backs under the previous two managers & even doubled down on it last summer when they had the perfect chance to come away from it with more than half the first team leaving. Now they finally decide to give free rein to a manager that’s never managed before & allow him to switch formations & move on several first team players with no fees generated after losing fortunes last season. They either know Hourihane’s the next great manager or they’re pretty poor at their job & I know what I think is the most likely option. I’ve said it before that I’m not the biggest fan of O’Keeffe but surely they can generate some kind of fee for a player with plenty of assists who’s rarely injured?
I'd be very surprised if we're paying all his wages, just on the basis we obviously want rid. If you tout your player, the acquiring club knows there is a deal to be had. I'd expect the majority of his wages to be picked up given they are in the same league, but certainly not all.
Shame he won’t be able to play against us. Nice lad was Corey. Not the brightest, mind. Think that showed in his football at times. I won’t wish him good luck, as they are a competitor.
Clubs in the main are Skint. No one seems to be splashing money around on fees below the championship. The vast majority of clubs haven't spent a penny in fees. And very few have sold players on for any amount at all. (Spent nothing/recieved nothing) Look at transfermarket league one transfers 25/26. I'd post a link if I knew how to. Also shows all those without a club. At this present time. Unless a few haven't been updated.
Just like they are giving free reign to a sporting director that isn't fit to do the job. Hourihane has shown nothing yet, itl either be a masterstroke or a disaster...... We shall see
I always try to see the positives in all our players, but he was one I could never warm to. After his debut – even though he got injured – I thought we might finally have a right wing-back as good as Cadden. However, it quickly became clear on his return that, while he was capable of a quality delivery, it usually came only when he was under no pressure. Overall, he was more of a liability than an asset, so I’m relieved he won’t be with us next season. Hopefully, it sends a message to the rest of the squad that being rank won’t be tolerated.
