Or is it just slack speech?
Just watched an interview on ITV news where the reporter barely pronounced his t's.
Even the weather girl on Calendar has started saying Twenny, twenny five etc.

Its slack. End of. If people can't speak properly when they know how words should be pronounced its just lazy as well as being inaccurate. I'm not talking accents here by the way...

It’s changed over the years especially around Barnsley. If anything we ‘tended to over-state the T’s, I’ve heard local youngsters now not pronouncing them. It was always the case in Leeds and other parts of West Yorkshire. But not generally a Barnsley thing

Maybe it's taking over from when people use "sh" instead of "s" o_O

I was referring to folk on tv. Nowt wrong with day-to-day speech anomolies but a news/weather/official person to mispronounce words is lazy and inappropriate I think. There's a responsibility there that isn't for average folk in their daily lives. In my opinion of course - I'm only expressing a view.

It's the dreaded glottal stop. The t doesn't becoming just nothing at all. It's like a tiny percentage of a t that is so tiny that you can not hear it! I find it particularly unattractive in the middle of words such as "water" and "comfortable", which become "wa'er" and "comfor'able".

The demise of ‘to’ is my particular bugbear. “I’m going Spain”, “I went pub”. Aaaaarrrgh!
