I quite liked Marc Richards. He had limited ability but worked hard, was a good foil for Nardiello, and he scored some important goals - a hell of a lot more than Cosgrove or Tommy Wright. Just checked - 18 goals in 69 apps, of which not all were starts. And almost half of those appearances were in the Championship.
Late equaliser wasn’t it? Rings a bell. I didn’t rate him. I think I’d take him over Cosgrove though. Whilst acknowledging it’d be like choosing to be punched or kicked in the plums.
I liked Richards. Always remember his brace at the City Ground. Think he scored loads elsewhere post-BFC too.
Funny how memory plays tricks on you. I remember Richards as a minor upgrade on Barry Conlon, who got a few useful goals but drove me mad through being 'nearly' on the end of a lot but never often enough to convince you he was an actual striker. A lot like Chris Dagnall in latre years. Definitely did a job getting us up though as a useful foil to Hayes and Nardiello. Can't believe we actually played him in the 2nd division though, let along 30 odd times!
Marc Richards scored 191 goals in a 600 game career...including this cracker for us away at Forest.( 2nd goal)
The goal by Paul Hayes vs Gillingham at 1:18 I wanted to add to the great goals people have forgotten about thread, but I'd forgotten when it was. Lovely touch and control.
We’ve had far far worse strikers here than Marc Richards Not saying he’s amazing, but give me one of him as part of a 4 man striker rotation any day of the week. Thanks.
