How many out of 10 . Announced fan zone, signed 2 players on loan,a rousing speech from Conor, the players are working their nuts off getting into shape. I'll start with a 6.
The club haven't announced a fanzone this pre season unless we are getting an additional one as well as the one announced last season
Pros: Identified the main issue - fitness 2 competitive players in Fan engagement Manager has full preseason Cons: Kit not on sale yet again Solid 8
- Lots of expensive deadwood still in the squad - Weaknesses of the defence still largely unaddressed - Financial weakness of the club limiting the ability to buy in talent without first selling some of our better players - Team working on fitness to enable a press, but may still lack pace necessary to make a success of it - Team spirit seems higher in clips shared on social media 6?
I’m a Barnsley fan, so will always have the optimism pre season. A couple more signings and will happily go 9 but at mo a steady 7. Give Conor a chance I’d say, hopefully the fitness will tell!
Still awaiting a signing that says to the fans ‘ we mean business ‘ hopefully that can happen this next week but at least we have a gaffer in charge who knows what’s needed
3 for a couple of loans. No kit available. No training kit available. All deadwood still at club. No friendly until next week. Changing an opponent at short notice.
Id say a 3 so far.. Failed to get any of those surplus to requirements out of the club.. Signed a young keeper when we already have two being paid but obviously not deemed good enough *at present* Good points.. don't mind the fullback. Got a good pedigree of clubs.. And still have my blind faith in Conor still intact.
New fullback with experience and who's described as pacey. Shepard and Lopata back, New Goalkeeper with a proven record. Academy possibly providing additional options. Defence may look a lot different. Supposed further signings to come hopefully midfield and up front. Still ant sold DKD, Phillips or Russell so lets see who's staying. Dependant on signings 8/10..if they don't happen and we don't shed some dross 6/10.
1, at best, as the keeper seems fine, for now, although it brings further into sharp relief the incoherence of the signing of Smith. Addressed none of the fundamental problems, brought in another 'quantity not quality' non-defending left-thingy-back and wasted a loan spot for a more needed position in doing so. A team on target for 50 points based on it's last half-season (even with DKD in it) has had next to nothing done to it to alter that trajectory whilst nearly every other club has or is strengthening rapidly. Cardiff with a Championship squad are the only club not to make a signing. Cardiff and Barnsley are the only clubs not to make a permanent signing. Elsewhere, 80+ have been brought in by the others including just about all the better free agents that are likely to sign for L1 clubs. To be just a month from the first game and not to have two new, commanding centre backs through the door shows total negligence, ineptitude or both. And a DK-Dexit would leave us with a front two of Dallas and Watters as it stands. Spectemur Agendo.
I can see the argument for giving Shepherd and Lopata a go in a couple of friendlies. They both had good seasons last year, and might yet be the answer for us. It’s definitely the defence last season that was the major issue though - scored enough goals, conceded far too many.
Yeah but haven't you heard, its still all Paul Conway's fault. And nobody else is to blame, apparently. Now you mention it again, I'm really worried about the possible Watters and Dallas partnership up front. What if any, are our options regarding signing at least one striker. I'm guessing its all down to who we sell first!.
