Another record from yesterday …. First time a Test team has lost the match AND scored 5 individual centuries

That’s very harsh on him yesterday, I really don’t think he played and missed a lot. I’m no fan of his but he was solid.

Takes you back to the day when 200 runs in a day was normal.
Dull batting, bowlers with endless run ups.
How things change for the better.

Quite ironic that Headingley always seen as a bowlers wicket.
High scores there ,and this one with only 35 wickets taken in 5 days play.

Am I being stupid in thinking that outfields are much faster nowadays ?
The ball certainly hits the boundary quicker.

We are seeing irreversible changes in test cricket now - it's no longer a problem chasing down over 300 to win a match, as the stats show. I remember years ago that if the opposition got a second innings lead of 150 plus then England would automatically pull up the drawbridge and play it safe to try to get there. And, of course, they often failed. Commentators would mention "a handy lead of 150-200" - could be enough to win.

Now things are so much better and even when Harry Brook went for a duck I still felt England would win. The only doubt was the weather but, thank goodness, that wasn't enough of a problem to derail the run chase.

Or reverse sweeping, or those silly ramp shots. People poo poo T20 and the Hundred but a lot of players now are playing in all formats and they are bringing those "risky" shots into test matches, and succeeding often. Look how many Duckett did in this match. I know the purists will say "that's not test cricket" but it will do for me. The game is supposed to be entertaining and who could fail to be thrilled by a conclusion to the game like that?

I'm only sorry that I trusted the weather forecast and didn't get myself down to Headingley to witness it. Many more had the same idea it seems. A finish like that deserved a full ground.

That reverse sweep for 6 from Duckett was a thing of beauty.

It can’t have been pleasant for the Aussie batsmen watching him come down the hill on his run up in that famous match in 1981 !!!
    Did we care ? Noooooo

Well I certainly won't poor poo it ,i love watching this baz bowl cricket.
Sir Geoffrey would be saying we used to grind the bowlers down for 4 hours knocking 2 runs in the process.
I know which format I would rather watch.
Just disappointing to see Harry trying for a big hit on 99.
Would have rather he would have prodded it for a single to get his ton on home soil

you’ve just contradicted your self massively there though

hit it hard every ball, there’s no thought of milestones just play the ball as you see it actual be ok. Might get out first ball it for 99 such is life.

as stated above the intent that has mapped across from T20 is great to see, this format gives enough time for the game to ebb and flow… a perfect combination

Exactly- he should have taken it easy and waited for the single to come along. Then back to normal. Sickening seeing a player miss out by one run.

I must admit that my love of cricket now includes white as well as red ball matches but I cannot get my head round the Hundred ( and never will ! ).

Remember going to trent bridge in the mid 70s to see us play the windies, Sir Geoffrey batted all day and didn't get to 50. But that Windies attack was something else .
