Some common sense from Headingley to allow people to bring in some of their own fluid.

The bookies odds are strange. I don't think we warrant being odds on to win.

Sai Sudharsan to make his test debut. It's a different format but in the IPL when he opens with Gill it's for me the best opening partnership in that tournament.

Correct decision to leave out Bethell. You can't drop Pope after his last innings.

So we decided to bowl and Gill would have done the same. Stats are for chasing in the 4th innings, but it's still a surprise. Glorious batting conditions, tire out your opponents in 30 degrees weather and let the dry weather crack the pitch for later on in the match.

If you win the toss, think about putting the opposition in, then BAT.

from 275 for 3 England have a metaphorical mountain to climb.

    What was their thinking?

I’m in the rugby stand whatever it’s called now on Sunday.

EDIT I’m in the Howard Stand Upper Tier; towards the western terrace side

I found it strange given our bowling issues why we decided to bowl first

Unfortunately not. India doing really well, not watched much but Shubman Gill is a class player.

Unreal to win toss and not bat in these conditions surely

Been today. 9 of us absolutely incredulous when we saw the call from the toss. It was absolutely glorious, perfect for batting.

Two reasons they got it wrong, apart from the score.
    1. The crowd never got going. If we'd batted, they'd have lapped it up by lunchtime.
    2. We put the pressure on our inexperience (bowlers) rather than theirs.

Stokes didn't just hand the the initiative for this test today, but for the whole series. Considering their big thing with Bazball is meant to be 'clarity ' they weren't half muddled with their thinking today

Still think England will bat big in their first innings though and this test will be drawn

To be fair to Stokes, Boycott , Bumble and the Indian captain all said they’d have bowled first.
I think they said that six previous international results at Headingley had gone to the team batting last

But surely it depends on conditions etc. for those matches? That sounds a bit like saying you should call a coin flip as heads if it's landed heads the last 6 times.

Win toss and bat. If you're not sure win toss and still bat.

With scoreboard pressure staring down barrel of an arse holing.
