Sometimes in order to get deals done early you have to over pay or over commit to players and I don’t think we can afford to make that mistake. Free agents will effectively take the highest offer on the longest deal. While it is great to get a deal done I wouldn’t want to saddle ourselves with another crap player on a silly wage for 4 years in the long term. if we have to wait for the right player to lower they’re expectations and sign for us so be it.
Yeah they finished in mid table obscurity like us but it’s nice to see they are backing their new manager by getting players in before pre season starts.
Bloke they signed today appears to be a 32 year old journeyman signing for a fourth time. Such a signing here would have you a yelping and a bitching....
Our problem is we’ve too many bad players we’ve been saddled with on long contracts. Hence why we won’t be at the front of the queue offering similar deals to players this summer. It’s wrong for Sormaz to say we’ll do our business early though when we clearly won’t.
Does it matter when we sign anybody? Personally I would like the core or backbone of the Team in before pre-season training starts, have a good look, then sign what we need, by that time not much imo,who else thinks we’ll leave it too late ? It’s hot int it
He's only had 4 clubs - hardly a journeyman. Nor is he old for a defender. And he's got a tonne of championship experience. I don't think this one warranted the snide remark tbh
Think the Rotherham example that gets wheeled out is poor, it was mainly attributed to a poor manager playing negative football last season, looked a different proposition once Evans went, think Rotherham will have a much better season this time round.
The problem is year after year the people in charge come out and say we are going to get our business done early and each and every window they don't and end up having to play catch up and make panic signings at the last minute. They'd be better off just saying we have our targets and they will be signed when we get the right deals in place.
Completely different scenario, they were relegated, embarrassingly from the championship, had a huge clear out, mainly via free transfers, so much so they barely had a squad! We on the other hand, have an over inflated, completely unbalanced squad, made up of players on long contracts who are not good enough therefore proving harder to move on. It’s clear to see that we can barely afford to make any significant signings before we’ve shifted some players on. I’m sure the recruitment team, Mladen & his cronies are actively trying to bring in players, but we know from experience that they will be pissing about trying to do it on the cheap. Who knows how many targets we’ve lost out on already!
I’m not disputing this was said, but can you share where it was said, and by whom? Because I’ve not seen any comms from the club, other than a Hourihane quote with the bizarre autograph on it weeks ago.
I wouldn't overly worry about other teams signing anyone. Remember we have Sormaz at the helm and his record of getting what we need when we need it is second to none.
