He was the best player on the pitch every time I saw him play. I came away from the first MK Dons game saying we should sign him. I’m surprised nobody ever did, cos he always looked like he could play at a much higher level than he spent most of his career. Some feat though, 949 games for one club.
I look forward to those who’ve been complaining about a lack of activity, moving onto plan b - complaining about the signings themselves.
On a serious note, this would be a sensible signing on paper, wouldn’t it? Experienced ‘keeper, known to Conor, allowing him to help develop one of Smith/Flavell whilst maybe letting the other get games on loan? I’ve seen Bradley mentioned in this thread too. Solid and dependable, no nonsense, a leader, left foot. My only concern with that one is his complete lack of pace. Which we’ve an abundance of in the back line already.
I believe Steer is wanting to get into coaching, so I reckon it could be a duel role, similar to Conor last season. A 12 month deal with another year in our favour would be ideal with one of the younger lads going out for experience. I'm less bothered about Bradley. As you say, he's not the quickest, though did have a decent spell at Wycombe last season by all accounts.
Can you explain to me in what way Conor had a "dual role" last season? Taking training and putting the bins out?
Jed Steer sounds like someone who invented a mass labour saving device during the Industrial Revolution and therefore I think he is probably ****.
He's tortoise slow, he'd get done by someone reasonable at walking, completely counter-intuitive signing for a team wanting to play with high energy. Steer was well thought of at Villa years ago haven't see much of his career since but happy if that one happens
If hes that slow I wouldn't want to sign him although experience can make up for lack of speed sometimes.
I'd be very fearful of him and Roberts holding a high line, dream ticket for teams wanting to break the press, just go long and in behind easy peasy. We're either a high press, high energy team or solid possesion based, something with playing attributes of one playing another way is a receipe for disaster. If we sign Bradley to be solid and possession based that's fine, but it means we have to be just that.
He's never changed clubs but there are also 29 league games he played for Wimbledon before the move that MK quite rightly haven't counted. There's a fabulous pub quiz question in there somewhere.
Not technically twitter rumours but just watched the Callum Fowler video. The 2 close incomings are Steer and Bradley so I guess nothing ground breaking there. Looking at bringing a centre forward in too. Biggest news is he says there’s a team willing to offer big money for DKD. Also looks like Humphrys isn’t signing as Wycombe and Mansfield are sniffing around him and have offered more than us. I’d be disappointed if Humphrys didn’t sign. Would also mean surely we would then need to be bringing in 2/3 wingers?
Why is it? Just means they might rate him more or be more willing to gamble on him. It doesn't simply mean we can't match their offer.
