First saw him ref at Frickley where you could hear his interactions, he had a brilliant rapport with the players, once on the football league list I bumped into him a few times at Sheffield speedway, always talked, really nice guy RIP Uri.
Surely no referee is there to be popular? They're there to upset the fans and give them excuses etc.... everyone knows that!
Im assuming youre tongue in cheek but if not...They're there to get the decisions right and keep the game flowing mate. If the guy did that overall he was a good ref
You're right about tongue in cheek obviously. My theory was that if the game flowed and you rarely noticed the ref, he was a good 'un. There's going to be odd exception along the way game wise, like Uruguay v Scotland at the '86 World Cup.
Didn`t realise he was paralysed from waist down and was learning to walk again according to wikipedia.
From the FA site he revealed earlier this year that he was suffering from a rare neurological condition which caused paralysis from his waist down.
