Interesting that the guy responsible had no experience as a DoF & came from a data analysis background
Plenty people can become good at a job having had little to no prior experience. I dare say what he will have done is gone in there and actually acknowledged that he wasn't the messiah on day one, listened to people, took advice where necessary and gained experience that way. What we have is someone who comes across like he thinks he's already the finished article, knows it all and everyone else is stupid. Big difference.
Just pointing out they don’t have to be experienced. Some on here have criticised the club for appointing someone with no experience. Ultimately experienced or not they can turn out to be good or bad. Interesting article on their strategy https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...r-recruitment-explained-summer-window-5049108
Fair do's. It's not his lack of experience that bothers me personally. We sign plenty people who lack experience, mainly on the pitch. Where these people run into trouble is when they think they know it all. Unfortunately I think our DoF is exactly that way. As part of my job, I regularly get people who have no experience. It's part of my job to train them up. When they come with that bit of humility and a good attitude and work ethic, there's nobody better. If they turn up already thinking they're ready for senior management then we're going to have problems.
No evidence? Well, he's never been a DoF before coming here, so I'm pretty confident in my assumption that he's not got any experience of being a DoF. Maybe then we could look at the transfer windows that he has overseen, which has seen us assemble a team that ships goals for fun, we're on our 48th keeper, and he signed Clement Rodrigues. Then he dodges interviews unless it's with the YTS guy from Oakwell who daren't ask him hard questions. He's lied to the fans regarding the level Clement came from. I'm not there in the building, so no, I can't say with compete confidence. But I'd put good money on me not being a million miles off.
What you say is true. People can develop in their role after a dodgy start. I would suggest that Sormaz, so far, has got worse. January was appalling (and I'm not talking about the weather)....
Sunderland have re-invested very well, i know they are on a different scale to us but it's the same principle but different economics of scale We signed Mads for 900k sold him for 3.5m but then didn't look to spend 900k again for the next one, instead went for a 300k punt in MDG.
If you looked at the Sunderland forum the majority thought he was a waste of space, in the pocket of the Bellinghams.
