Good game so far. The GOAT has just scored for 2-2. Cucurella getting booed everytime he touches the ball.
Calling Ronaldo the goat is hilarious. Portugal would be much better if they didn't feel pressured to keep playing him at his age. The man is a machine, an incredible talent. It's insane how committed he's been to his body & the sport. But he's not a patch on Messi in terms of natural ability. Seeing them both play live is such a privilege - as it was watching Ronaldinho too (although that's when he wasn't in his prime, sadly!)
Saw him interviewed the other night, might have been after the win against Germany. Someone asked him about if he would be at the World Club Finals, he said today wasn't for talking about him and his club, it was about his country. Then said..... but as you asked........and proceeded to drone on for 5 minutes about how great he was that he'd had a number of suitors, but he'd turned them down, "you can't kick every ball", "I've done it all".....blah, blah, drone. Dick of all time for me.
'Another trophy for Ronaldo, another trophy for Portugal' I detest when commentators put players before their club/countries
He's got a knack of winning major trophies for his small country. Once he finally does give up they won't win another anytime soon.
Eder scored the winner for Portugal in the Euros final. Ronaldo was subbed off injured early on. They didn’t win a group game that year, yet squeezed through as one of the lucky third place teams. Scraped through on pens against Poland was it? That tournament has a knack for producing strange winners. See Denmark and Greece for other examples. Also, this nations thing isn’t a major trophy in my eyes. Glorified friendly tournament. I doubt any footballer speaks about ‘the dream is to be a nations champion’. Not knocking Ronaldo. He’s been an unbelievable player and deserves all the recognition he gets. But when I think of Ronaldo I think of the striker for Brazil. Who won a World Cup. Like Messi, the actual GOAT.
Major trophies? Please stop. They finished 3rd. THIRD. He's an unbelievable player but isn't anywhere near Messi. Physical specimen, sure. But footballer? Nah no comparison.
