Whatever, its more of testing the waters and reactions to what are financial decisions IMO. Whether they are wrong or right to get rid of either its the financials that they need to get us out of this ever expanding hole. Have a good day Jay.
Couple of things 1. If you're disappointed, how many games did you get down to watch the lasses? 2. It's ***** they took another club and rebranded it to them drop it 3. FA are mad 4. Hard decision have to be made when you're losing close to 10m a year
I agree with last point, no way some of the teams in that league are better than the Academy facility. On a seperate note for reference Lincoln City women play their games at Gainsborough ground and for a league match had 59 in attendance. Not sure how they are funded but clearly if they can survive at a ground in a different city with next to no fans ……. Edit: just had confirmed Lincoln are funded by 2 sponsor's and the Lincoln City foundation (a charity), so are connected to the club by name only. Lastly odd the FA 1 hour ago released confirmation of leagues and it still includes Barnsley Women.
Simply from reading the statement that's my reading too. It looks like the board saying 'enough is enough' to the FA to me rather than a distaste for the women or an unwillingness to persevere with a nascent project. Just the way I read it.
I'm thicker than a thick bloke from thickshire pal. Mind you, I dont vote Reform. p.s. Sorry about politics. Only having a laugh
That's the other team. Same level but were in different divisions on a geographic basis (central/Midlands as opposed to north/north east which BFC women were in. Me either.
Great points, mismanagement does seem to be a strong theme over the last couple of seasons, getting kicked out of the FA cup, sacking a manager only to find out that his immediate replacement can't get a work permit, wasting money on random signings that we don't have a plan for are a few that spring to mind.
Blackburn's Women's team has withdrawn from WSL2 citing the unsustainable demands being made by WSL. Instead they'll be playing at least two tiers lower. Although their games were played at Ewood Park attendances were low. The female game has to learn to walk before it can run. https://beyondthe90.co.uk/2025/05/2...football-blackburn-women-withdraw-from-wsl-2/ I can't help but think that the cost of living crisis is biting football on its backside and the football authorities are doing the wider game no favours. Too many TV deals and deals that impact unfavourably on supporters who actually attend.
I may be wrong but......wasn't/isn't JAQ the face of her husband's investment? I'd imagine there'll be another statement soon that she's left, with Parekh hoovering up the shares........hope he ain't turning out to be Chansiri lite.
I hope not. Julie isn't perfect, she needs to keep away from the kits for example. But she actually cares and we desperately need people who care at Barnsley FC
There’s just not enough interest in it. That’s the top & bottom of it. Barely anyone goes to watch it at club level unless it’s free entry or heavily discounted at the big clubs. It’s a lovely idea for the women to have their own teams but they’re always going to lose money. It’s a shame for young girls to not have a women’s team affiliated with the football club but we aren’t Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal etc. we can’t keep funding something that barely anyone is watching that loses us money. Hopefully one day the sport can become profitable but I can’t ever imagine choosing to spend my weekends watching women’s football over men’s as the pace, power & ability of the men just isn’t there. I think the only way we could fund one again is if we somehow established ourselves in the top flight & were prepared to lose money funding it over the long term as we were generating loads in TV money & I don’t need to tell anyone on here that we’re a million miles away from that.
Lose money? Not like us then? How many men's clubs are creating a profit? As for discounted prices I'd say men's are over inflated to be honest - men's game could take a leaf out of the book of the women's game to not rip off fans
I do understand this POV, I really do. But you should have seen the impact it had in the community, the amount of interest that increased regards female participants. I wasn't a dissenting voice pre its establishment, not publicly, but I knew it was unlikely to flourish. Most did. That's the disappointment for me. It was agreed to 'go for it' anyway, and yet here we are, couple of years down the line having had success on the field, much more female participation in the community and it's dead in the water. Whether it's the FA or whatever, I don't care. I'm not blaming them or the club, because I'm not privy to the detail. I just find it disappointing and something else that causes consternation amongst an already flagging fanbase.
No but the men’s team is losing £8m a season because the people running it are very poor at their jobs not because there isn’t interest.
The men’s teams are losing money because they’re chasing a dream. They know that if they have success they’ll have far bigger crowds & TV money. If Barnsley women win their league they aren’t going to suddenly develop a much bigger fanbase & make hundreds of thousands in TV money.
