I think that's the crux.. if we can't get shut of a few we'll be going with what we have. Can't keep bringing players in without jettison a few. But the problem being only players of interest to others will be the ones we as fans would like to keep.
The club already stated a few weeks ago that we have a competitive budget so i wouldn't think we have to rely on out goings to bring players in.Obviously if we do sell a couple it will increase the budget.
We have interest in Liam Roberts again apparently. https://x.com/RichSCawley/status/1929614347325551007?t=HSgjUk6SBxAX12zQinPDJA&s=19
Barnsley are keen on loan deal for Crystal Palace keeper Owen Goodman seen a few games and looks a good prospect. https://x.com/palacereport/status/1931606385571041679?s=46&t=trUrLWLsldTn2T7z_vrQBw
I hope not. We have two good young prospects and there are other parts of the team that should be a much higher priority. For a club who is skint, we don’t half seem desperate to waste the money we do have on an a position that’s not a priority.
Sadly both those “prospects” didn’t really look ready for the first team environment which is rather worrying especially with Smith being 23 and us bringing in a multitude of keepers we would have rather played until we had no other option.(poor recruitment once again) Anyways Bolton and Huddersfield supposedly interested so would imagine it’s unlikely he’s likely coming here anyway having just been promoted from league 2 via the play offs and getting nearly 50 games under his belt last season.
Looking like Mladen scattergun is still working. We had 4 young keepers getting a game last season and you wouldn't be over impressed to see any of em in goal come August.. 73 goals Mladen... Need a different plan.
He's very highly rated and we certainly need a new GK for this season, but personally would prefer to stop loaning in other young keepers to be number one and sign an experienced option instead for a season or two to help Flav develop
I mean if Wimbledon are in for him (and why wouldn’t they be as it’s next door and he was there last season) is he really going to come to Oakwell instead with things as they stand?
The only reason I can think of is if we get a young third/fourth/fifth choice keeper from somewhere and play him.. His parent club will still pays his wages, because we have him in our shop window.. So it's a free loan.. I may be miles off.. but why else would you take one ?
I was thinking exactly the same. Whoever it is that gets paid for identifying players must spend 4 days a week on goalkeepers
I would rather we found a permanent number 1, used Smith as back up and send Flavell out on loan for a season with a January recall clause.
Totally agree, let Conor choose an experienced keeper and then put some trust in the 2 young keepers that we have given long contracts to as back up. Mladen can then chuck the goalkeeper choosing dice in the bin for a couple of years and focus all our resources on the rest of the team.
I doubt this one is true. Given we've just extended Flavell's contract, we're either going with the 2 inexperienced keepers we have, or one is going out on loan with a more experienced number 1 coming in. At least that's what I'd hope anyway. It's the classic, club X Y and X are interested in generic player who did well in the division below last season. The source being Alan Nixon makes me suspicious too. He'll get one right eventually.
