Barnsley Football Club is delighted to announce a new contract for promising youngster Jonathan Bland. The 19-year-old has signed a new deal at Oakwell until summer 2028, with a further year option in the Club’s favour. Initially arriving in 2022, Bland joined the Academy setup at Oakwell before progressing through the ranks to make his first-team debut in September 2023 in the EFL Trophy against Manchester City EDS. Bland was handed his league debut against Cambridge United in March 2025 by Conor Hourihane, making a further eight appearances towards the back end of the 24/25 campaign. “We are extremely pleased to see Jonathan commit to Oakwell long-term by signing a new deal,” said Mladen Sormaz, Sporting Director. “Throughout his time at the Club, he has demonstrated an ability to progress and adapt to new challenges through the age ranks. “We also want to thank our Academy for their hard work in developing Jonathan, not just as a footballer, but also as a person. It’s fantastic for the Club to see an academy graduate commit his long-term future with the Club. “We look forward to watching his development as a young player working with Conor Hourihane and the wider coaching staff.” Hourihane said, “It is fantastic to see ‘Blandy’ extend his stay here after working with him closely towards the back end of last season. He delivered strong performances despite being a young player and showed fantastic maturity throughout. “We as a coaching staff look forward to continuing our work with Blandy and are excited by his future potential in a Barnsley shirt.” On committing his long-term future to the Club, Bland said, “I’m delighted to get the deal done. Conor and the club have put a lot of faith in me and I’m excited to build on what I’ve started and prove why I deserve it.” Continue reading...

Not a lot of people know this (probably)but Blandy’s is the world famous company on the island of Madeira that makes the fortified Madeira wine. You can visit their wine lodge in Funchal and sample a few variations. Very nice it is too! Established 1811 by John Blandy and his family.
Nice to get the promising youngsters tied down, can see Bland starting next season, could be a Scowen type?
