Key moments change games. In 2000 if Barnard scores the pen I think we go on to win it. You could argue so many moments in 2023 the sending off, the pen that never was, luca missing the sitter, isted should have saved the goal. Just wasn't our day.
Thought Phillips was a red all day long, high, uncontrolled, dangerous but had then pen been given, which was a pen then the likelihood of the passage of play being different was very high and the Phillips tackle doesn't happen. https://x.com/maxallis0n/status/1925959539280539961?s=19
Good post. I feel compelled to add that having spent a few hours outside the ground having a good look round, I saw both sets of supporters behaving sensibly, irrespective of the local rivalry. No doubt other experiences are available. I was right in line with Connell's "shot". After that, my hope disappeared. As though I just knew what was to follow.
The annoying thing is, that Phillips forced the ref to make that decision. Because on first viewing, it looked like he went in dangerously. However, he barely touched the player actually, and Lee Gregory reacted appallingly to it, like he'd been shot. And the ref didn't take any time to think about it, to maybe try and let things calm down first. If he'd wanted to, couldn't he have asked Var to check it ?.
It was corruption, plain and simple. The FA wanted the higher potential for money club in the Champ; Robinson was promoted to the PL as a reward for making it happen. Anyone who thinks otherwise, I've got some seafront property in Birmingham you might be interested in.
Did Duff say that the referee apologised after the game for getting the penalty wrong (and then it wasn’t a clear and obvious error for VAR to correct)? I thought he said this last season after Huddersfield lost to Wrexham but I might have misunderstood.
Have to disagree mate, he had no control both legs off the ground, trailing leg made clear contact, watch the slow motion on the link I posted, high, uncontrolled no contact on the ball whatsoever.....pains me but red card all day long.
Phillips challenge was reckless on first viewing, he gave the referee a decision to make, it wasn’t a clear & obvious error, so VAR not needed, & vice versa, if he gave yellow it wouldn’t have been overturned to red. So correct decision in the end. The penalty shout should have been a penalty, it was a clear & obvious error so god knows why it wasn’t overturned, or even looked at? All that wouldn’t have mattered if Duff had started Norwood instead of Tedic.
Tedic wasn't a good striker imo, and unpopular opinion the 60 minutes Norwood played was his best in a barnsley shirt. If he had started he would have wanted subbing by 70 minutes he never lasted 90 never mind 120. If we had better back up options than watters and tedic that season we would have gone up. Tedic is now playing in the Serbian league.
To be honest Redders, while it was an idiotic challenge to make in the first place. Ive always thought it looks worse than what it was. Gregory more or less flopped down on top of him, and conned the ref of course with his play acting. But if the ref was giving it though for sheer 'intent', then I suppose I have to agree with that.
Honestly think it was a stupid heat of the moment, incensed at not getting the pen challenge, agree with you ref windass and Gregory were all over it.
Ipswich were also very lucky that night against Bolton, in the Semi's. We had a bad record against them then, and I always thought we would have beat Bolton instead, at Wembley. That was an awful first 20 minutes of the 2nd half for us, and Keith Brown was totally played off the pitch by them.
This. In both league games Norwood had them scared sh1tless, if we had started Norwood and even if he only lasted 60-70 minutes we would have battered them
He’d picked up a knock at Brentford in the week, where we trained. It obviously wasn’t disclosed at the time as we didn’t want to give Wednesday a heads up. He absolutely rattled them in all three games against them. Huge player for us that season. Underrated. Although it took him some time to get up to speed. Hilarious bloke too. So funny.
