Barnsley Football Club is pleased to announce a new contract for homegrown goalkeeper Kieren Flavell. The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 24/25, making his league debut for the Reds under Head Coach Conor Hourihane, featuring eight times in total between the sticks. Earlier in the season, Flavell enjoyed a loan spell with Farsley Celtic. A member of the Barnsley FC Academy from being eight years old, Flavell extends his stay at Oakwell for a further two years, with an additional year’s option in the Club’s favour. Mladen Sormaz, Sporting Director commented on the deal, “It is fantastic to see Kieren commit his future at Oakwell after being trusted with the opportunity to develop in the first team under Conor last season. “Kieren extending his stay at the Club signals an intent to develop homegrown talent and retain players who embody the identity of a Barnsley player.” “Despite facing setbacks in his career, Kieren has shown a determined attitude to keep progressing and we look forward to seeing his future development.” Conor Hourihane added, “I was really pleased to give Kieren an opportunity in the first team towards the back end of last season in tough circumstances and felt he rewarded my faith with a string of mature performances. “Having him at the Club in the future is exciting for our coaching staff as we keenly get to oversee the future development of a local lad who loves playing for his football club.” After penning his new deal, Flavell said, “I’m buzzing to have signed a new deal at the Club.
