This last few weeks I’ve seen fans in much lower leagues than us banging there drums and chanting there songs for there beloved teams. I genuinely think it’s now the norm or cool to be ‘anti-Barnsley’……we’ve had some long debates on our WhatsApp cos from the 8 of us only 2 are renewing, I get it in the neck left right and centre ‘Rose tinted’ ‘JAQ’ ‘what you watching that ***** for’ blah blah blah……. A thought when ya signed up as a fan you rode out the low times not bailed ruaring like a bairn
Just watched a clip of Oldham fans going crackers after Yoganathan’s goal…..they are a set of fans who’ve had it hard over the years and they appear to have stuck with them
Not sure they’ve always stuck by them tbf. Remember a lot of ill feeling against the owners and empty stands. Not sure what the owner situation is now but they’re on the up again and fans will always come back when that’s the case. Good luck to them, had a lot of rough years.
Nah, they were getting 4000 in league 2 before COVID. It's only since they were bought out that their attendance shot up by about 50%
Spot on. Something that really bothers me is if you don’t want to go that’s fine don’t go but don’t try and persuade others not to go either or belittle them for enjoying it or renewing there tickets. If you’ve fell out of love with the club leave the BBS, the Facebook groups and Twitter and find a new hobby and go and join groups related to that. Don’t suck the fun out of it for the rest of us.
100% agree. Twitter is vile for it, see people mentioning they've renewed or looking forward to new season, they amount of **** piled on is ridiculous.
I don't think people are anti-Barnsley. Look at us all on here - we're all Barnsley fans. I think there's been so much anger, frustration and disillusion about the club and team over the last few years though that people are simply venting. We all want to see Barnsley do well and if there's a decent recruitment drive this summer and some entertainment on the pitch we'll all be less critical. If Conor gets the team challenging as well the mood among the vast majority will change markedly too, just watch...
People will go and watch a winning team whatever the level. I admire those who go regardless of the results, and those that don’t can get derided as “fair weather fans.” but remember the majority of Barnsley fans are not season ticket holders, as with most clubs. Implicit in that is the conditional nature at least in person of that arrangement.
Many of us criticise elements of the club and in most cases rightly so ... ( Sormez, Parking, Watters etc) but only because were disappointed that our club is not doing better. Like most fans we want sucess and have had our share with the Premier league and Championship promotions plus a Wembley win in the JPT. Never boring being a Red, Wouldn't swap it for owt..
It's always been the case since I started watching us in 2003. "Whats tha watch them fo?" "The s**t!" "What Prem teeyum duz tha like then?" - mostly from Arsenal/Manyoo supporters, who've never been West of Leeds or South of Milton Keynes. And my favourite: "BaAaRrnZLeH?" - by folk who've never lived away from Monk Bretton or New Lodge etc. So when it comes to the Euros or World Cup I make out I'm supporting France or Argentina. And then it's all "THA SHOULD SUPPUWERT ENGLAND!"
I think a lot of people just jump on bandwagons full stop. I definitely agree about this. Many seem to think it’s cool to stick their fingers up to the owners & say they’re not renewing. I’m not happy about Sormaz, I think he’s useless & everything Hourihane says about trying to play high press football with the players we’ve got terrifies me but I’ve already renewed. I’ve said it before but I’ll still be going if we were in the conference. They’re just my club & even if we’re useless & ran by idiots I can’t see that ever changing. I’d say there’s a couple other examples of bandwagons this season. De Gevigney is one, he seemed to have a huge fan club on here when his mistakes weren’t getting punished, he had a few weeks where every mistake he made seemed to get punished & all of a sudden most fans seem to want shut of him. He’s still the same player. Nwakali was another one. People lost their minds at seeing a player have a few good games in possession against the weaker sides in the division. There was talk on here that the team needed to be built round hm, that he was the best player at the club & that the manager was an idiot if he didn’t pick him. 3 months later & Bland’s starting games ahead of him & no one even questions it.
Sums up my feelings exactly. I'll always go regardless of the league we're in and the way we're playing. The only thing that would stop me would be ill health. It's our club and hopefully it'll still be here long after Sormaz and the others have long gone. Social media just whips up negativity and it spreads like a virus.
If nothing changes behind the scenes but we start being successful on the pitch, they'll be back, it's called being fickle.
